Initially joined as a joinery apprentice before progressing into a hybrid role combining surveying, project coordination, and office-based operations. Worked closely with senior staff and external contractors across a range of public and private sector contracts. Developed strong technical, commercial, and digital skills, taking on increasing responsibility over time. Key duties and achievements include:

• Conducting site surveys and assessments for fire protection, maintenance, and refurbishment works across commercial and government properties.
• Supporting the use of Boris software (asset management system) to log, update, and manage fire door inspections and remedial works in line with compliance standards.
• Assisting in the preparation and submission of quotes, tenders, and RAMS, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness in line with client requirements.
• Playing a key role in building the company’s online presence, including developing and maintaining the official website and contributing to branding and content.
• Gaining hands-on experience in quantity surveying tasks such as material take-offs, cost estimation, and labour forecasting.
• Supporting project planning and documentation for jobs delivered to clients including Bell Group, Ministry of Defence (MOD), Mitie, University of Glasgow (UofG), CSS, Taylor & Fraser, and Morris & Spottiswood.
• Learning on the job through self-teaching and guidance from experienced tradespeople and office staff, demonstrating initiative and a strong work ethic.

This role has given me well-rounded experience across trades, digital systems, surveying, and project support — making me confident working on-site or in the office in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.

Gained hands-on experience in all aspects of domestic joinery while working under qualified tradesmen on various residential renovation and extension projects. Key responsibilities included:

• Installing a range of internal joinery components such as timber and laminate flooring, doors, skirting boards, architraves, and stair components.
• Assisting with kitchen installations, including cabinet fitting, worktop cutting, and alignment.
• Supporting extension builds with structural timber work, stud wall construction, and basic roofing preparation.
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and measurements to ensure accurate material cutting and fitting.
• Safely using power tools and hand tools under supervision, maintaining high standards of workmanship and site safety.
• Collaborating closely with joiners, plumbers, electricians, and plasterers to complete multi-trade projects efficiently.
• Transporting materials, maintaining a clean and organised worksite, and following health and safety protocols at all times.

This apprenticeship provided a solid foundation in the joinery trade, developed my problem-solving skills, and gave me a strong understanding of building processes from start to finish.
