In my 20 year career as a Nurse I have been fortunate to work across a number of sites and settings to develop my skills and knowledge to ensure that quality evidence based care is always delivered to patients in my care.
I started my career in older adult medicine and progressed to a Senior Sister role within 8 years, a role I continued to enjoy for 5 years across 2 hospital sites. The role provided me with a great deal of satisfaction and I received a number of accolades recognising my commitment and hard work within this time.
In 2018 I was kindly afforded a Career Break to allow me to pursue my dream of travelling. Upon my return I was posted to a Community Inpatient Unit delivering rehab and managing complex discharges. Within this time I reflected upon my career so far and took the difficult decision to step down from a Senior Sister post to work Bank to allow me the freedom to travel freely.
I continued to work across various sites within Birmingham Community Foundation Trust whilst intermittently travelling for the next 4 years until I successfully interviewed for a 12 month Fixed Term contract within Neurology at Moseley Hall Hospital.
Throughout my time within Neuro I have further developed my skills within complex airway management and Tracheostomy weaning whilst continuing to deliver a high standard of nursing care and demonstrating leadership and support for my Senior Sister. I have also taken the additional role as Student Nurse Link Nurse, ensuring all student feel safe and have access to their assessors and additional resources.
I have experience managing incidents and complaints and implementing action plans to the team at all levels.
I have experience in budgets, both staffing and non staffing and ensuring targets are met in KPIs and length of stay to ensure adequate financial flow. I endeavour to ensure that such targets are met whilst not compromising quality and patient experience and safety.
I have recently relocated to Lichfield and I'm living on a narrowboat which is my next personal adventure and therefore why I wish to continue to stay in a permanent post for the foreseeable future. I believe my personal life as well as my nursing career is enriched by new experiences an learning form those experiences and those around me.
