REVIEWS FROM STUDENTS Spanish Connection “I take weekly one-to-one classes with Raquel; she is a great teacher, she's good at explaining concepts and she helps me with my confidence. The course is well paced with good material. They are well organised, which helps me fit classes around my work schedule. Highly recommended.” “I've just finished a course for complete beginners and thoroughly enjoyed it. Communication with Blanca, the course organiser, was really good throughout and Raquel, who taught the group, was an excellent teacher who gave us a very good grounding in the language. She was always well prepared, with well-structured lessons and helpful back up resources. I would highly recommend Spanish Connection to anyone looking for Spanish lessons in Edinburgh and hope to continue learning with them again.”
Studying PGDE, I have been able to develop my character and personality as a Spanish teacher with young people. I am adept in developing and implementing curriculum and school policies, classroom management, and helping students advance their understanding of the language and culture. Moreover, while my on-the-job experience has afforded me a well-rounded skill set:
• Increasing student concentration, participation, and accountability, by building a positive relationship with them based in trust and respect.
• Designing materials and creative lesson plans, using different ICT and resources.
• Implementing differentiation strategies, included in lesson plans, and offering support during the lesson when needed: collaborative reading, pair work, translation apps for EAL pupils, personalisation and choice (same task divided in level of challenge with spicy peppers, for example), scaffolding production activities, and guided reading tasks.
• Participating in the assessment of students and in the preparation of the Nationals and Higher.
Critical and rigorous study of Spanish language and literature, being implicit the linguistic variation of the Latin American countries and the richness of their literature. Reception and interpretation of oral texts and literary and non-literary writings and knowledge of the nature and history of the Spanish language. Rigorous work of the oral and written expression, synthesis, comprehension, reasoning and abstraction capacity. Development of an open, flexible and responsible attitude, the ability to argue strongly and the ability to establish a dialogue with values and past and present cultures.
