As part of the Secondary Lining team, I am involved in the construction of the offshore Tunnel Shaft Connections at Outfall Tunnel, Intake Tunnel 1 and Intake Tunnel 2, which are part of the cooling water system for the HPC nuclear power station.

My main responsibilities are:

  • Overseeing daily operations, ensuring works are completed safely, meeting quality and programme targets
  • Managing the engineering team, ensuring adherance to safety regulations and project specifications
  • Tracking progress of works against programmes and milestones, identifying and addressing potential issues or delays
  • Ensuring the quality of work meets the required standards and specifications
  • Ensuring required documentation (RAMS, ITP's, TW Designs, etc) are in place
  • Overseeing the allocation and efficient use of engineering resources, materials and equipment
  • Communicating regularly with the Client, providing updates on project progress and addressing any concerns
  • Working closely with the Project manager to ensure successful execution of works

  • Managing 3 teams of Shift engineers, ensuring the H&S, Quality and Programme targets were met
  • Assisting the Site agent, ensuring the smooth and efficient execution of works.
  • Sequencing of works and producing of "4 Weeks Look Ahead" Programmes
  • Producing and reviewing RAMS, ITP's, TBS's, TW Design Briefs
  • Reviewing TW and Permanent Works designs
  • Submittal of RFI's and NCR's
  • Liaising with Designers, Client and other Balfour Beatty departments (Quality, Survey, Materials teams) to address any issues that might arise
  • Ordering materials and equipment

Works included the installation of waterproofing, reinforcement, cast-in items, falsework, formwork and concrete placement.

My main responsibilities were:

  • Managing a team of shift site engineers, ensuring targets for my shift were completed successfully
  • Responsible for the setting out and Quality inspections during my shift
  • Ensuring the H&S, Quality and Programme targets were met
  • Producing RAMS, ITP's, TBS's, TW Design Briefs
  • Issuing Permits (Confined spaces, Hot works, Work at height)

The works included repairs at several RC bridges at M5 motorway near Gloucester (between J10 and J14), involving excavation to expose bridge foundations, hydrodemolition of damaged concrete and repairs to piers and foundations caused by Thaumasite Sulphate Attack. Works included as well fixing other structural elements of the bridges such as bearings and plinths, abutment walls and waterproofing membranes.
