Responsible individual seeks opportunity in bookkeeping to build upon practical accounts administration strengths. Accurate and attentive for reliable recordkeeping and reporting. Self-motivated and organised for productive independent working.
Melton Meat Ltd
At Melton Meat I work in a busy office where I work with different members of staff to aid the running of the office and day to day running of the company where I carry out the above duties. The office is very busy and has people from all areas of the business from management and vets to production staff coming through requiring different levels of assistance. I answer the phone and deal with any the queries or delegate out to the correct member of staff. I have to be extremely organised as my day-to-day work is often interrupted and am required to be able to sideline and re adjust the order of my work.
The majority of my work is carried out on Excel and Word so I have a good knowledge in this area.
Pickwell Plant
The work I do for Pickwell Plant is carried out in the same office as Melton Meat so is under the same conditions as above. My main responsibility is to record and submit the VAT on Sage Line 50. I use Excel to analyse and record all the receipts and expenses as I feel this is a more organised method and enables the accountants, management or myself to easily refer back when queries arise. This role requires more concentration than Melton Meat so I try to plan my work so that I do this role when the office is less busy and there will be fewer interruptions. As mentioned above the office is busy and is open to all staff, so I have to ensure that sensitive documents like bank statements, company information is moved to a secure space if I leave the office
Listers Volkswagen
This was a thoroughly enjoyable role, one in which I was really able to get my teeth into. Although I was working in an office I was dealing with members of staff from all departments and levels ranging from car park attendants, to departmental managers, site managers and company accountants. The role was a supervisory role and as a result I was responsible for one other member of staff. I had to organise the split of the work in order to make the office run as smoothly as possible. Organisation was key, as there were a number of different regular tasks which all had different deadlines. I needed to be able to stop a task and help other staff out with queries that required to be dealt with urgently or in a timelier manner. The majority of my work was carried out on a VW specific programme but wherever I could, I would create an Excel spreadsheet to help organise me.
I enjoyed covering reception on lunch breaks as I got to be in the hub of the dealership, talking to customers, answering the phones and generally watching the busy dealership run.
UPS
Again, this was a busy office and over my relatively short time here I worked with varying levels of staff but mainly within my department and my immediate boss. I had to manage my workload so that the various deadlines were met, there was no leeway as offices from America were working to the same deadlines. As a result, it was very pressurised but it just made me more determined to make sure I organised myself in a way where I was able to meet the deadlines and provide the information required.
Lamin and White Accounts Practice
This was my first main employment and gave me a good solid start and grounding for office roles going forward. It taught me many of the qualities which I have taken forward into further employments.
I worked as an accounts clerk in a firm of accountants working my way up from entry level to accounts technician. It was from here where I did my evening AAT college course. I put myself forward for this as I wanted to improve my accountancy skills to enable progression within the company.
My main role was to produce a set of analysed accounts from the information clients provided us with. These ranged from perfectly kept day books and reconciled bank statements through to incomplete records. Work here was all non-computerised but I feel this gave me a much better understanding of the fundamentals of accounting.
At times I was required to cover reception for the day, so I would take my work downstairs and manage this alongside answering phones and dealing with clients walking in. All client’s records were confidential so when working on reception I had to ensure that client confidentiality was always adhered to whilst being able to carry out reception duties.
