Work history

Occupational Therapist

Sefton Council
, Sefton
08.2004 - Current

I have worked within Sefton Local Authority community setting for my professional life, the evolving service has allowed me to change areas within it and therefore develop my expertise.

I previously worked as a rehabilitation assistant and nursing auxiliary in Southport hospital allowing me experience of the hospital setting.

I have developed and refined my core skills over the years, ensuring my observational, communication and problem solving skills are key to the outcome of the person centred assessment and goal setting.

I currently work within the Paediatric team in Sefton Local Authority which requires skills to manage the complex neuro diverse, sensory processing, and congenital conditions, as well as the physical, mental and learning needs of individuals. It has required invaluable links with health disciplines ensuring an holistic approach. as well as the vast area of specialist services. Sourcing the most appropriate provision for the individuals needs is imperative to finding the best solution and I have gained links to the organisations across the field, whilst refining the search to find the best provision and service that best meets the long term requirements. Children are ever evolving as they grow and change and creating long term flexible plans with risk assessments, allows for their independence to develop within a safe environment. . Children always come with family and managing individual needs, requires taking into account other family members needs, to ensure the best outcome.

I also have many years experience working with the adults team in Sefton. Developing my moving and handling skills, major and minor adaptations knowledge, equipment provision and problem solving solutions.

Whatever the setting it is clear my time management and organisational skills have been imperative in ensuring a positive outcome for the individuals and their families.

Occupational Therapy is a profession I am proud to have chosen and belief it can help change and support peoples lives for the better whatever age or disability a person may have. Using a person centred and holistic approach ensures the individual is at the core of the assessment.

My experience has provided me with the skills to manage complex conditions and my caring nature has ensured a therapeutic relationship can be formed in often very sad and uncertain times for individuals and their families, allowing a more positive outcome.

I thrive to ensure thorough and concise documentation and use clinical based evidence to support decision making in my practice. No two cases are the same but I'm dedicated to deliver the best possible outcome for each individual.
