  • Collecting samples, unpacking and sorting into various priority levels. Sending back samples to their appropriate locations if mis delivered.
  • Dealing confidently with samples that need to dealt with outside of our usual workload, aka time sensitve samples, temperature sensitive samples, highly infectious samples.
  • Booking samples into our online LIMS system (Winpath)
  • Coding from one LIM system to another to make sure patient tests are bought across from other hospitals in our system. Learning test codes for two different systems and double checking all work bought over from these hospitals to make sure all tests requested are on both systems.
  • Loading and unloading samples onto our automate pipetting machine. Capping and trouble shooting these samples at a fast paced rate to keep on top of the workload so it can be passed on to the appropriate benches for testing.
  • Trouble shooting analyser errors that occur regularly to keep the flow of samples processing. Reporting errors to analyser manufacturer ‘Beckman’ to make sure repairs that are needed are booked in asap.
  • Answering the phone to various healthcare professionals and answering any queries they may have. Effectively passing the phone on to colleagues who can more efficiently answer said queries.
  • Using Microsoft teams to communicate effectively with colleagues throughout the laboratory. Filling in a daily activity report so the management know of any issues that arise.
  • Double checking the booking of, and scanning of private patients request forms to keep a tidy paper trail of all private samples received in the lab.
  • General upkeep in the lab. Keeping PPE, analysers and consumables topped up. Keeping work areas tidy and avoiding contamination with use of PPE and keeping work areas clean and tidy.
  • Receiving and sorting stock. Keeping work stations stocked with consumables.
  • Implementing a new bin system that ensures lab waste is disposed off efficiently and effectively.
