Due to my experience as a BMS, I was expected to perform a variety of tasks of a similar nature. Running and maintaining automated analyzers, loading quality control materials, and centrifuging samples. The responsibility of this position is to ensure the smooth operation of the Biochemistry section in the Specimen Reception area. Supporting senior BMS staff in the training of new MLAs and ensuring the smooth and safe running of the department on a day-to day basis. This area is considered to be important. I am expected to communicate professionally with other biochemistry staff and respond to routine inquiries. I am responsible for maintaining stock records. I participate in internal and external quality control (EQA)schemes as part of my work. • Assisting in the achievement and maintenance of United Kingdom Accreditation standards. Assisting with general laboratory maintenance and housekeeping. • I am complying with health and safety policies since they directly affect my health and safety and that of those around me. I had undertaken routine maintenance of analyzers and equipment, ensuring that Calibration, IQC are within acceptable limits in all
sections i.e. Haemotology, Blood-Bank and Transfusion, Biochemistry, serology/Immunology, Microbiology and Bacteriology, Clinical
Pathology. I just wanted to give summary about my job and responsibilities.
I used to receive sample from reception and prepare samples for analysis.
• I used to process routine Biochemistry and special Biochemistry samples, HbA1C on Beckman coulter and validate it.
• I had been requesting immunology tests for clinicians i.e. ASO, RA, GEL electrophoresis for urine and serum, HIV, HCV, HTLV,
immunoglobulins level.
• I used to carry out maintenance and IQC and EQA on ABG Cobas b 121 and process sample and interpretation and validation.
• I ensured that test procedures are carried out according to SOPs, assess that other junior staff are competent and participate in
their regular review and update.
• I used to undertake technical validation of highly complex results from laboratory investigations to ensure accuracy and precision
as specified by laboratory protocols.
• I had performed routine morphological assessments of routine blood smears and to be able to identify normal and abnormal blood
cells and recognized distinct morphological features and common bloodborne parasites.
• I had undertaken the basic troubleshooting in the event of equipment or assay failure. Escalating the failure to a Lab. Supervisor/
Biomedical Engineer of the Hospital as necessary, and maintaining incident documentation as required by the Standard Operating
Procedures.
• I was responsible for monthly Duty-Rota for staff.
• I was responsible to validate new machines in lab.
• I was responsible for Thalassemia screening by Bio-Rad D-10 Analyzer and escalated for validation to the Consultant of
Haemotology.
I had performed Sickle cell and G6PD deficiency Screening and validated.
I had performed Thrombophilia screening by ACL TOP 500 and interpreted and validated in several occasion.
One of the special test which is Keilhauer testing- staining and APT testing I used to perform occasionally and used to escalate it for
interpreting result to the Consultant hematologists.
• In Blood -Bank I was responsible for Anti Human Globulin testing, Various Types of Cross-match compatibility testing with Diamed
Gel cards system - Blood Group, ICT, DCT, Blood donor screening and blood collection, Investigation of Blood Transfusion
Reaction, Blood Component Preparation by Bachman's J6 B refrigerated centrifuge, pooled cell Preparation, Du test for Rh-
Negative, capable to work in various blood donation camps to do phlebotomy.
• I used to make sure that adequate stocks of consumables and reagents are available to maintain an efficient service, informing
Lab. Supervisor /central store department of lab when supplies need replenishing.
Coordinated logistical needs for project execution, resulting in smooth operations.
