As a midwife i use my acquired skills such as communicating between team members such as Supervising midwives. This included prompt escalation when women's observations went away from being normal i.e., high temperature and pulse, which is indicative of sepsis, especially for a woman in labour whose water has gone. This allowed the midwife to commence the sepsis six i.e., starting antibiotics, taking bloods for blood cultures, clotting factors, and full blood count. this also enabled further escalation to the midwife in charge plus obstetrician to start plan for delivering the baby.

i have learned to balance work and life since i have five children and at the same time doing the midwifery degree and always managed to attend all my placement allocations and essay submissions in addtion to exams.

  • Provided postnatal care, including breastfeeding advice and emotional support, to new mothers during recovery. this was during my postnatal placement where I taught women how to breastfeed and latch their baby using the CHIN acronym. there was a lady who was really upset tht her baby wouldnt latch but he was hungry, so i suggested that i take baby and soothe him plus give some formula as mum rests and then to try again later which helped mum to happily try again later.
