Work history

Transport & Logistics Manager

Viamaster International
Morley
03.2024 - 06.2025
  • My daily responsibilities here at Viamaster are assisting and overseeing in the planning of our vehicles with my team. Ensuring they are maximised on outbound and that they all have reloads.
  • Managing subcontractor relationship's and reaching out to extend our partners when necessary to ensure optimal efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Overseeing the warehouse management system, ensuring stock levels are kept accurate and doing what I can to assist in a smooth flow of their work load throughout the day.
  • Manage customer relations making sure any issues are well communicated and that optimal service levels are maintained. In doing so we increased our import work volumes by 40% and successfully established 2 new partners during my time here.
  • Producing in daily KPI reports ensure that any issues are visible so corrective action can be taken where necessary. The transport department had minimal historical figures but we now keep metrics on volumes, revenue, vehicle utilisation, all of which helped us to be more efficient and profitable as a department.
  • Followed by weekly operations meetings with the other Managers and directors so we can assess issues and weak points in the business to target improvement.
  • I was also the lead figure in implementing a new company wide system due to my previous experience working with multiple other TMS / WMS in previous roles.

Logillistics
Sheffield
08.2023 - 03.2024
  • Whilst I was at Menzies the North regional manager was made redundant as part of a re structure which opened the door or an opportunity to try start our own transport company along with some of the guys at Logillistics. It was a chance I was never going to get again so I took the risk and left Menzies to give this a go.
  • It consisted of calling upon all our contacts to generate some work, sitting down between us all and creating a budget and a business plan, and a lot of cold calling.
  • We had some success and things we're heading in the right direction but i was increasingly bearing the workload by myself as other shareholders interests had diverted elsewhere, leading me to take the decision to leave.

Lead Planner

Menzies Distribution
Normanton
04.2023 - 08.2023
  • My promotion to lead planner came with being responsible for a team of 4 planners and 3 admins covering 4 different depots across the country.
  • Day to day I would oversee the planning and make sure that all process’s are being followed and that all the deliveries are getting covered.
  • I would have to collate revenue figures and present the statistics from my depots to my manager and sometimes higher management, reporting on the overall performance of the depot and how operations or process could be improved.
  • Between myself and the other 2 lead planners we we’re responsible for an office of 19 people so we had daily morning meetings to discuss current issues and developments within the business. We also used to lead the office when our manager was regularly out of the office.

Transport Planner

Menzies Distribution
Normanton
03.2022 - 04.2023
  • During my time as a planner at Menzies I planned 6 different depots across the country, requiring me to learn process’s and adapt to how 6 different warehouses and teams work.
  • This consisted of me spending 3 weeks in Milton Keynes, 10 weeks in Nottingham and 1 week in Glasgow.
  • I was responsible for planning the trucks, finding backloads, keeping system compliance up to date and being accountable for the earnings of my trucks.

Transport planner

Leman International
Normanton
01.2020 - 03.2022
  • Among the rigid side of transport where there is three of us I am the lead planner, sharing the planning duties of 10-12 rigids with one colleague on our alternating shift pattern.
  • Daily duties include checking all the POD's from the day before, dealing with problems and phone calls from drivers.
  • Subcontracting work where necessary, arranging Hiabs and flatbeds in some cases, and arranging deliveries of hazardous goods.
  • All the rigids we run are the same subbies that come in to work for us every day, so building good relationships with these companies was crucial as managing the driver can sometimes be challenging when they don't work for us.
  • I have been responsible for all our finances as a department, making sure that all invoices from our subbies and other partners that we work with have been sent to us in time in order to make sure our monthly figures are correct.
  • In doing so I have to check and approve every invoice, and chase anyone that we haven’t received invoices from.
  • Being responsible for the finances has caused me to be more aware of the costs and incomes of the department, leading me to then know where to look to try cut costs and be more efficient.
  • In doing so I set up contracts with the courier/haulage exchange, to give us more options in subbing jobs to find the cheapest way.
  • A tracking company as none of the trucks had trackers, so I installed trackers to all the vehicles so we can keep a closer eye on the drivers.
  • XPO for our hazardous freight, we used a different company that was under performing so I found a better alternative.
  • And lastly DHL, for our deliveries of boxes, which previously we're sent through a pallet network meaning we we're paying a pallet rate for one or two small boxes.
  • Also during my time here I changed an implemented a number of procedures that weren't up to standard, namely the quality of POD's returned by drivers, driver communication with us regarding daily issues, driver professionalism and attention to detail, and the methods that the warehouse followed to load the trucks every morning, leading them to be more efficient meaning my drivers we're out on the road quicker.
  • I have recently switched to running our fleet of artic vehicles, ranging from 15-20 trucks that are mostly trampers.
  • This consists of me running them all week finding backloads for them where needed and being on call 24/7 for any issues they may have.

Transport planner

George Walker Transport
Morley
11.2017 - 01.2020
  • I worked a 6-3 shift meaning alongside a colleague so I'm the first person in the office in the morning so I need to brief all the drivers and deal with any issues they may have to get them out on the road as quickly as possible.
  • I've spent the majority of the last two years planning collections to begin with then deliveries after that.
  • Collections consisted of making sure we get to all our customers in their specified collection windows and being flexible to their demands and special requests.
  • This was with 30 18t's, 1 7.5t and 2 vans.
  • Alongside this we have a number of customers that have trailer collections, which also needed managing carefully as a missed trailer of freight could be costly.
  • After spending almost a year on collections I moved to deliveries.
  • Planning the second runs for my 20 vehicles that covered all LS and WF postcodes.
  • This grew my local knowledge massively as you need to know what certain delivery points are like, how strict they are with times, how slow/fast they are at tipping my driver, how fussy they are with damaged pallets.
  • This experience allows me to plan and think on my feet quickly as it is a very fast paced role.
  • I have also spent 6 months planning 10 rigids which cover our 'general' side of transport, with these vehicles going further afield.
  • Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham, Derby, Hull, Bradford, Preston and Warrington almost every day.
  • This role also consists of dealing with agencies to get cover for holidays and managing the drivers internally, swapping them about as required to make the most of the most of the resources we have.
  • All the above roles have similar office admin duties, helping drivers who are stuck at delivery points throughout the day by phoning customers, keeping up to date with various statistics and figures in excel files so we have data to look back on and making sure drivers are following procedures correctly.

Assistant production planner/ Transport planner

Sampling International
Batley
12.2013 - 11.2017
  • I am office based and primarily my roles are assisting in planning the work on various Microsoft office programs and arranging and co-ordinating our deliveries via our van and other couriers.
  • I am part of daily meetings with the production team every morning to plan the work we have, looking at staffing levels, overtime and agency to make sure we get the work done to keep our customers happy.
  • A close relationship with our sales team is crucial so they are up to date with how the work is flowing through the company so they can inform the customers, regular contact through email and phone calls ensured this happened.
  • I have the sole responsibility for all transport for the company, arranging all the pallets and boxes we send out daily through various couriers and with our own company van.
  • This also comes with the responsibility of making sure that we are getting the best service possible out of the transport companies we use, meetings twice a year with them directed by myself to go through any queries we have with them kept on top of this.
  • I also work closely with the warehouse as we need to work together to make sure that all the deliveries happen smoothly, I am their go-to person for all deliveries in and out of the company. Meaning I have to always be organised so I can give them clear instructions on what pallets are which vehicles throughout the day.
