PETER MONAHAN

POLICE CONSTABLE
SOUTHPORT

Summary

Throughout my working career I have always held positions that involve dealing with or interacting with the general public and professional customer based companies. I believe I am flexible to change in working practices or environments.

I left full time education in 1984, achieving 6 CSE's , I attended night school to try and improve that and achieved 3 GCSE's in English Literature, Criminology, and Childcare Studies.

I have held many roles/jobs since then, including shop work, butchers, waiting on. bar work (local bars and 2 seasons at Pontins)

I moved to London in 1989 - as stated earlier I worked as a security guard at The National Gallery and got married. I moved back to Southport in 1992 where I found employment with Royal Mail.

In addition to being a postman, I was a Special Constable with Merseyside Police from 1992 to 1999, covering all aspects of home office policing role, dealing with often stressful situations, domestic violence, traffic incidents and sadly sudden deaths.

Attending Magistrates Courts on numerous occasions as well as Crown Court (more serious offence) once and Coroners court twice

I had applied to Merseyside police on 3 occasions for full time role but was never successful.

I came across a little known about constabulary in November 1999, curious about what it had to offer I applied, 8 months later I was starting my career in the nuclear industry.

I have been able to utilise my past work ethics and standards to great effect within the UKAEAC + CNC and feel I could bring those same skills to this role within EDF.

Work History

Police Constable

CIVIL NUCLEAR CONSTABULARY
Heysham, Lancashire
07.2000 - Current

I joined the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Constabulary in July 2000 as Police Constable/Authorised Firearms Officer and posted to Capenhurst (Cheshire).

Following completion of 2yr probationary period I was successful after application in becoming a General Purpose Dog Handler, a position I held for 7years, at which point my dog had to retire, and my tenure on the dog section ended.

Throughout this period, I maintained all professional qualifications, AFO status, first aid qualifications, and fitness requirements, as well as annual General Purpose Dog Handler licencing/refresher courses.

Whilst at Capenhurst I had an additional voluntary role as Community Liaison/Engagement Officer, involving visiting local village residents in their homes and/or community venues/school.

In 2005 UKAEAC became Civil Nuclear Constabulary and training standards and frequency became more frequent and intense.

In 2013 Civil Nuclear Constabulary services were removed from Capenhurst and I was relocated to Heysham Power Station via a 4 month secondment to Wylfa Power Station - Anglesey.

Since being at Heysham I have conducted all roles as dictated by CNC and more recently in the Heysham 2 SSCR working in conjunction with all EDF Security teams. I have played an active role in several site exercises to a good standard. 2 on the ground as AFO team and 4 as SSCR operator.

It was a physically demanding role, enjoyable , frustrating at times but on the whole rewarding.
