Recent chemistry graduate (UCLAN - BSc (Hons) - First Class) looking to gain short term employment before applying for a PhD starting September 2024. My time at university and previous work experience has taught me key skills applicable to a range of potential job roles, including numerical/computer literacy, good written/verbal communication, attention to detail, critical thinking, time management and knowing the importance of both working as part of team and working independently. I'm a fast learner, always try to maintain high standards with my work, and always aim to please.
During my time at university, I contacted my old job at Tesco for some part time work, who were happy to have me back. Duties involve assisting customers with anything they require, an important part of my job is communicating with customers in a consumer friendly way. As a team, our other responsibilities include maintaining the general cleanliness and presentation of the department, organising and sorting stock, and stocking the shelves in a timely and efficient manner.
The job involved the handling of the day-to-day duties of a university based research project, on a short-term basis. This included the development and execution of practical experimental methods, data collection, analysis and presentation of the obtained data as well as developing a clear understanding of what had been achieved between myself and my supervisors via weekly presentations/meetings.
My work at TD Construction involved carrying out tests as per the British standards, and monitoring the general well-being of lab equipment on a daily basis. I took part in a successful UKAS audit, with my work being judged to adhere to the standards set nationally.
It was my responsibility to carry out morning checks on the balances and ovens necessary for adherence to the British standards, ensuring they were working within the accepted degree of error. As well as this, I carried out numerous tests, including measuring the strength of concrete cubes, and determining the optimum moisture content for compaction of a given soil sample. Attention to detail and general safe lab practice were key attributes I displayed during this role. The role inspired me to study chemistry at university to gain a higher level of understanding of lab based work.
As above.
I have work experience at The Pikes Lane Medical Centre in Bolton, where I worked as an Administrative Assistant. Here I had to carry out any task that was required of me precisely and accurately in order to help the practice run more smoothly.
