  • Created end to end finance process based on MS SharePoint as the "source of truth" for all reference data, transaction data with linked Excel report tools and invoice generation.
  • Across three charities, the above named charities and "The Colour Works Foundation", I have utilised VBA with standard Excel functionality to create automated monthly management reports for trustees and management. including a reconciliation dashboard to verify accuracy, consistency and completeness. Reports including cash flow, spend against budget and fund tracking for funder reporting as well as automated production of CC16a annual return for the Charities Commission.
  • Implemented reference data management to manage changes to the chart of accounts, management units and fund sources.
  • Trained staff in the operation of finance tools, including SharePoint, SAGE Payroll and the customised Excel reports.

Senior business analyst

Barclays Bank
London
11.2006 - 01.2015
  • 2012 to 2014 Lead analyst for the data cleanse stream for the "Reference Data Management" (RDM) project. (sponsored by the group CFO) I worked with data from multiple finance systems, including SAP ledgers and Oracle's consolidation engine "HFM" to identify financial metadata relationships, define over 30 data quality rules, identify over 300,000 plus finance reference data quality issues, conduct impact analysis to triage the data cleanse and provide the means for numerous finance teams to understand their data and effect remediation. I am particularly proud of my analysis of the profit centre (PC) heirarchy for the whole of Barclys Group, a data set with tens of thousands of elements. Using the PC parent-child relationship in SAP, I created a visual representation of the heirarchy along with qualitative analysis (both top down and bottom up) to highlight orphaned PCs and Profit Centre Groups. This enabling the businesses to close large numbers of reduncant PCs and PCGs.
  • 2011 to 2012 Project Manager and Senior Analyst "XBRL" project. As chair of the BBA's work group on HMRC's XBRL implementation, and the Barclays lead project manager, I oversaw the training of technical accountants to contribute to the development the UK banking extension to the XBRL taxonomy fit for HMRC tax submission and deliver into Barclays a novel XBRL tagging process and capability. In 2011 Barclays partnered with HMRC, to champion the cause of automated tax returns and specifically the associated financial statements. I was chosen by the Group FC to be Project manager and lead analyst. Across the Group, I co-ordinated the several businesses sub-projects (Retail, Corporate banks, BarCap, Wealth etc.) to create a unified, consistent XBRL process for statutory accounts submitted to HMRC as part of the tax return process. I established a new XBRL team offshore for use group wide, trained and recruited the accountants in the team in the use of the newly developed banking extension. With Barclays Tax, I created a workflow to ensure all businesses which submitted UK tax returns had FC signed off XBRL tagged accounts. This required me to successfully engage key stakeholders both internally within the Finance function, FCs from all the main businesses, Barlcays Tax, as well as external stakeholders, my counterparts in other banks, and not least with HMRC and XBRL UK.
  • 2009 to 2011 Business lead for the reporting work-stream in the Group HFM project. The HFM project replaced the SAP consolidation engine with Hyperion Financial Management. Working with the group statutary, capital and management reporting teams, I produced requirements for over twenty key regulatory reports, which were succesfully developed and delivered into BAU. I produced the training materials for finance teams across the group, to utilise HFM report tools to produce both ad hoc queries and persistent reports to facilitate data enrichment and intercompany reconciliation. Later, seconded to Treasury I developed bespoke Excel based reports and tools to facilitate the HONI (Hedging of net investment) and ZCP (zero capital profit) processes.
  • 2007 to 2009 Business analyst on group finance projects. In 2007, as part of the finance change management team, I delivered requirements and other key deliverables to a number of projects, including the definition of the capital adequacy team's business operating model, migration of finance operational risk data, migration of data relating to sarbanes-oxley processes and controls, and on an aborted project to produce report requirements as part of a proposed merger between Barclays and ABN-Amro.
