  • VC backed Secondmind developed a SaaS model of AI to solve complex issues for the Automotive industry.
  • Responsible for Operations (Finance, Tax, HR, Commercial, Legal, IT and facilities and administration), working with small team.
  • Led negotiations for business contracts including the first SaaS agreement for the company valued at £4m. Automotive revenues grew by more than 60% annually.
  • Reduced costs with strategic oversight of procurement activities with the cash-burn being reduced by 75% and considerably extending the cash runway. A major achievement was to exit an onerous facility lease eliminating an £8m liability.
  • Strong relationships with the investors and management team providing reliable and accurate management information.
  • Raised £16m initially through the Future Fund and then with a Series B Equity round which added a strategic investor.
  • As Exec lead introduced People related strategies such as annual cultural survey, social committees and an ESG strategy. Employee satisfaction was more than 80% and the staff attrition less than 15%.

  • The plan was to relocate the business to the UK from Australia and the USA but the UK investors pulled out as the investment did not get EIS approval from HMRC.

  • Tantalum developed Connected Car apps backed by the PE firm Disruptive Capital
  • In 2018 its first subscription solution was launched in the US through AT&T and it also developed an in car payment platform as well as a clean air automotive tool for driving in cities. Revenues peaked at £11m and 156 FTE's.
  • Tracker, a stolen vehicle recovery technology business owned by Tantalum since 2014 had £10m revenues but continually made losses until I worked with the Tracker MD to restructure the business leading to a positive EBITDA . EXIT : Tracker was sold in 2019 showing a 8.1x return on original investment.
  • I worked on several M&A projects to raise funds and as part of a buy and build strategy. In November 2018, Springworks (a competitor in Sweden) was acquired for £17m
  • Cash funding was a continual issue. I established strong cash reporting processes to keep the business operating.

  • Rivo Software is a leading enterprise EHS SaaS provider acquired by PE firms Kennet Partners and Eight Roads in July 2013.
  • My role was to restructure the back office team and develop financial reporting to the Board and Investors. This included the implementation of NetSuite as the company ERP system.
  • Operationally I led negotiations to close sales contracts working directly with customers and the sales team. In this period over 100 transactions were closed with a total contract value of more than £20m.
  • During this time we migrated from a hybrid pricing model to a full SaaS model growing the ARR from £1.5m to £4.5m. We also went through several business reorganisations globally.
  • EXIT : I managed the IM, data room and DD process through to sale to Sphera (supported and owned by PE firm Genstar Capital).
