• Before operation

-Ensures that the theatre has been cleaned before the trolley is set.

-Prepares the instruments and equipment needed in the operation.

-Prepare own self by using sterile technique like scrubbing, gowning and gloving.

-Receives sterile equipment via the circulating nurse using sterile technique.

-Performs initial instruments ,swabs and needle count, checks with circulating nurse.

• When surgeon arrives

-Assemble the drapes according to use.

-Start with towel, towel clips, draw sheet and then lap sheet.

-Assist the surgeon in draping the patient aseptically according to routine procedure.

-Place blade on the knife handle using needle holder, assemble suction tip and suction tube.

-Secure suction tube and diathermy instruments with towel clips or Allis.

-Prepares sutures and needles according to their use..

• During An Operation

-Maintain sterility throughout the procedure.

-Awareness of the patient's safety.

-Adhere to the policy regarding swabs counts/ instruments count/ needles counts.

-Before the incision begins, provide two large swabs ,marker pen with ruler on the operative site prior to incision.

-Passes the first knife for the skin to the surgeon with blade facing downward .

-Passes the retractor to the assistant surgeon.

-Watch the field/ procedure and anticipate the surgeon's needs.

-Pass the instrument in a decisive and positive manner as needed in the procedure.

-Save and care for tissue specimen according to the hospital policy

-Undertake count of swabs and instruments with circulating nurse and correlate with the pre-surgery findings.

-Informs the surgeon regarding count result.

-Assist the surgeon with suturing the surgical incision.

-Apply the dressing over the surgical site.

• Establish and maintain safe Surgical Environment
• Assemble, check and prepare appropriate surgical equipment, instruments and consumables for wide range of cosmetic operative procedures
• Monitoring patient’s condition as relevant to role taking appropriate action to manage any arising complications through contingency planning
• Communicate appropriately with others in multi-disciplinary team involved in care of patients
• Monitor, order, receive and check stock items including implants, equipment and drugs as relevant
• Acting in scrub role across range of procedures on completion of competency signoff

• Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individual programs of care for patients in peri-operative environment.
• Provide timely, skilled and effective assistance as member of theatre team, in accordance with theatre policies and procedures, rotating through roles.
• Assist with coordinating smooth and safe flow of patients throughout peri-operative process.
• Co-operate with other departments/hospitals to ensure safe transfer of patients to and from department.

• Day to day HIC rounds in all critical areas as well as general wards, monitoring HIC practices like hand washing, segregation of bio medical waste etc… and report to HICC coordinator and nursing superintendent
• To coordinate with microbiology departments and correlate with clinical parameters with help of clinicians and monitor HAI (Hospital Acquired Infection) like VAP (Ventilator Acquired Pneumonia), UTI (Urinary Tract Infections), SSI (Surgical Site Infection) and HIC indicators monthly
• Teaching nurses and other staff about HIC practices and updating with recent advances.
