Additional Information

  • I'm able to draw on over 20 years experience in clinical environments, performing primary surveys, perform & interpret investigations ranging from simple bloods to ABGs, perform ECGs & interpret rhythms. I am also ALS trained, all of which help deliver more autonomy, accountability, critical appraisal & reflection on my practice. The skills acquired through different experiences have supported me professionally. This skills acquired through an academic route allow me to analyse physiological conditions that I may encounter. I can critically appraise sources of information to demonstrate evidenced based management for the deteriorating patient. Being in this particular clinical environment allows me to consolidate theory & practice with a view of looking to see what my next challenge could be. I'd like to see how the nursing role can be developed to deliver patient centred care from an autonomous practitioner. Having knowledge of managing deteriorating patients through ad-hoc peer training, reflective practice & formal training of ALS, experience of ‘the clinical skills lab' has given the appropriate skills & confidence to initiate primary surveys and management of deteriorating patients. Having an awareness of skills & experience of peers allows for effective communication, utilising the right people in the right place at the right time. Resource management is important but so is providing support for staff to gain experience through observation & intervention. Being enthusiastic & knowledgable about the nursing role in critical situations promotes opportunities for reflection & discussion for the support of junior or less experienced staff.
