This was a small family run Bodyshop with only myself, the owner and 1 other employee. It was a very well respected business and the workload was massive. I would perform all the duties from estimates, repairs, prep and painting of car body defects and accident damage. Here we worked long hours and customer satisfaction was paramount alongside the financial obligations aof not being a large business so cost management was vital. I enjoyed the face to face contact with customers and the feeling of being a crucial cog in the operations. Sadly the owner developed ill health and the company stopped trading.
I went into business with a friend where we installed roof and wall sheeting and cladding. This is a demanding and highly skilled trade where we worked all over the UK building a wide variety of commercial and industrial buildings. The business grew and we had a team of 8 by the time I found working away was a conflict with family life and decided to go back to the motor trade upon the birth of my 1st child.
After leaving School I completed a 5 year apprenticeship in vehicle body repairs. I did both panel and paint sectors where most apprenticeships are 1 or the other. In my role as well as the obvious skills learnt I also gained a strong work ethic and the importance of attention to detail that I feel a trade requires. Often people don't have direct consequence of inferior work however in this trade there is no room for error as any imperfections are quickly noticed and can have hugely detrimental financial and competency impacts on ones self and the business.
I achieved a City And Guilds level 3 qualification upon completion.
