My work experienced started when I was 15 and still at school. I took a position as floor staff and bartender in a local hotel.

Having an interest in cars and mechanics I followed a career in vehicle maintenance and body repair. From this early start, and having worked directly with the public I have developed good communication and interpersonal skills. When working in a motor repair environment I came to understand the importance of working in an efficient and methodical way, and hence I have an organised approach to tasks. I consider myself to be a detail-oriented painting professional with 15 years extensive experience in surface preparation, paint mixing and precise application of coatings to meet job specifications with focus on automotive and industrial.

I have a reputation for resolving problems and effectively meeting the needs of both employee and customer. During my professional workplace experience I have demonstrated strong knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and maintain a clean, hazard-free working environment at all times.   • This position required the repair of damaged vehicle panels for restoration of vehicles to pre-damage condition.
  • Initially a work card identified car body damage. I was then required to assess and decide on the best method of repair and also allotted time scale for efficiency.
  • There was a requirement to strip and fit all body parts including mechanical electrical trim (looms).
  • I applied spot welding techniques, and when required applied heat gun to plastic components, moulding them back into original shapes.
  • Prepared surfaces for efficient painting. This process included everything from using filler substances on small dents to using metal fabrication to repair or replace body panels and sections, as a means of reducing the need to use filler on panels for a flawless finish.
  • Mixing paint, and ensuring accuracy with colour matching was an integral part of the procedure. This process required complete accuracy, both as a means of ensuring a meticulous finish and also cost effectiveness.
  • It was also my job to apply primer layers before painting, ensuring long-lasting finish on repaired areas.
  • I was trained to use specialist tools to reshape and refit vehicle parts, including air and power tools.
  • I have knowledge of, and have assisted in using JIG alignment equipment to ensure precision, and verify that repairs are carried out to manufacturers specifications. This determines safety compliance on replaced or repaired parts.
  • Working in this environment required a high level of safety procedures. This meant verifying that equipment used was operated in accordance with safety standards. The workshop and tools had to be clean and maintained at all times in accordance with health and safety guidelines. There was also a need to use PPE and have knowledge of COSHH to minimize personal risk and risk to others.
