I am a confident and effective communicator, both verbally and in writing. In my role as Security Manager at an Immigration Removal Centre , I communicate daily with detained individuals, many of whom do not speak English as their first language. I also liaise regularly with colleagues, senior management, and external stakeholders such as Healthcare teams and the Home Office. I prepare and deliver presentations, briefings, and communications to groups at all levels, ensuring my language, tone, and approach are appropriate for each target audience.
I possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, consistently prioritising my workload to complete tasks efficiently, accurately, and within required deadlines. I am confident engaging with an array of personalities while considering cultural, ethnic, and linguistic differences. My role requires adaptability in challenging situations, making dynamic risk assessments based on my environment, behaviours presented, and emerging risks.
Attention to detail is a key strength. I am experienced in analysing and processing large volumes of sensitive information to identify key points and produce accurate reports, briefings, and presentations. Working as a Security Manager has strengthened my ability to maintain precision when assessing detained individuals' vulnerabilities and needs—whether relating to mental health concerns, risk of suicide or self-harm, disruptive or non-compliant behaviour, or indicators of exploitation, torture, or trafficking. I also ensure all follow-up safeguarding actions are completed in line with government legislation, Detention Services Orders (DSOs), and local policies.
I am able to navigate evolving priorities in both routine duties and project work. As the Security Manager, I lead and support a dedicated security team, ensuring clarity, structure and consistency in our daily operations. I host morning briefings to set operational expectations and priorities, conduct end-of-day de-briefs to review outcomes and emerging risks, and allocate tasks for my staff to complete in my absence. I also chair monthly security meetings focusing on the Physical, Dynamic and Procedural security settings of the Centre, ensuring compliance, situational awareness, and continuous improvement across all areas. I remain proactive and motivated in my leadership approach, regularly setting goals, seeking constructive feedback, and embracing new learning opportunities that enhance my professional capability and the performance of my team.
I champion a positive workplace culture where colleagues feel empowered, valued, and recognised for their contributions. I strongly believe that an inclusive, supportive environment drives team performance, morale, and job satisfaction.
