  • Establishment of a competency management system in line with Rail Safety Publication 1 and in compliance with Railway and Other Guided System legislation resulting in a 97% pass rate from selection.
  • Sole responsibility for planning, packaging and delivering safety critical and operational training for tram drivers and controllers in the lead up to operational service and continuous development of this throughout passenger service
  • Establishment of assessor competence framework and overarching assessment model for Edinburgh Trams including the training of a bank of assessors and their continuous professional development.
  • Creation of the first companywide internal promotion scheme for Drivers to Driver Instructors resulting in a bank of 6 instructors and the successful training of 41 Tram Drivers for operational service over a period of 9 months. This has included training, development and supervision of two Driver Instructors who are now competent to assess and train new tram drivers.
  • Creating of the Driving Instructor role and line management of a bank of instructors including their continuous professional development.
  • In partnership with safety I have lead and managed various investigations post operational incidents. As a result my knowledge and experience contributes to the effective management of these incidents.
  • Implemented an in-house database which tracks and records operational incidents and their relationships with breaks, outside influences and other human factors.
  • Sourced and designed alongside Occupational Psychology Centre (OPC), human factor training course for Tram Drivers, with a view to reducing operational incidents significantly but increasing driver awareness of the contribution of human errors.
