The past 20 years of my working career have been in an education setting helping young people to be the very best they can be regardless of their background and upbringing, whilst also bringing up my children. I found it to fit around my children's schooling suitably, especially during school holidays etc.
I have been accountable for all students' progress, planning, and preparation including IT and enabling support with their specific needs, regularly liaising with the school team monitoring and assessing students' learning.
Patience, timekeeping, and communication are a key element to this and children with some learning difficulties require precise timetables and need consistency and excellent communication.
My role within Chalk Hill is a Higher level teaching assistant/Trauma-informed practitioner. I started as a Teaching Assistant in November 2021 however, in 2022 I was gifted the opportunity to run and teach a nurture classroom for students new to Chalk Hill and undertake the opportunity to train as a Trauma informed practitioner. These students were children who had struggled in mainstream school due to several ACE's which caused them upset and difficulty in maintaining their placement in a mainstream school which caused behavioural issues. It provided the students with a safe and secure environment where they could learn and grow supporting their social and emotional development: the ultimate goal being to enable children to re-engage with life and learning.
