Year 12 student at Sutton Grammar school studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. I work well with others as I'm always open to new ideas and welcome challenges to my understanding. I'm a fast learner, teaching myself to play guitar to a grade 7 level within 2 years, which has proven to be useful with my studies. I have strong mathematical and critical thinking skills, aiming to be part of a dynamic team to learn new techniques and improve my skills.
Problem solving
I attend engineering society at my school in which our teacher gives us difficult questions to solve which challenge how you
go about solving problems
Teamwork
As a part of my bronze DofE I helped younger children with any academic tasks they needed help with once a week for 6 months, working with them to help many students lower down the school to understand new topics across an array of different subjects
Communication
In my role as a prefect and as a part of the mentor programme at my school I enjoy communicating with younger students in a way that makes them feel comfortable that they are in a safe space during the sessions, whether it being knowing when to ask open or closed questions or how to actively take in all that they say do or say to create a good relationship with my mentee
Artistic skills
I am grade 5 in Piano, I'm working towards a grade 7 in guitar and have been a chorister in the Chapel Royal choir
Hiking/Wild Camping
In May, I will be going on a 5 day hike in the Isle of Skye with two friends, in which we must be self sustainable, demonstrating orienteering, map reading skills alongside effective team and leadership skills. Our application to do this as part of the Mark Evison foundation has recently been accepted and so everything will be going ahead as planned with funding from the foundation.
Engineering Society
Every week I attend Engineering society at school in which we solve complex engineering/physics problems which I find interesting due to my love of problem solving and using my critical thinking to tackle challenges.
Jazz Band
I am a guitarist in my school jazz band which I attend every Friday lunchtime and love playing music with my friends. Overall I love music whether it be playing, listening or watching other performances.
Philosophy, Ethics and Religious studies
I find great interest in discussing difficult and often unsolvable philosophical problems and hypotheses with friends and teachers, exploring the different views on Kantian and Utilitarian Ethics and how they can be applied in both imaginary and real world scenarios.
Paddle Boarding
Going paddle boarding with my family, weather it be on the Dart in Dartmouth or on scenic Spanish lakes or even closer to home around Richmond, is a great passion of mine which I love to take part in whenever I get the chance.
