I am an enthusiastic student who is eager to learn new skills and take in information. I am particularly interested in working towards an engineering trade which I why I have chosen to study at the Energy Coast UTC, studying here has helped improve my problem solving skills and attention to detail. I thrive in a team environment as I have always been part of a sporting team. Playing at a high standard for Kells U16s Rugby league has helped develop my teamwork, determination and discipline.
Since August 2025 I have been helping coach the Kells U6s Rugby League team which my younger brother plays for. Once a week I assist the coach with training sessions, helping to teach basic rugby skills such as passing and teamwork, and encouraging young players to build confidence and enjoy the game. I help set up and organise training equipment and support the head coach during drills.
Supporting these young children has helped me to develop my own communication and leadership skills as well as helping me to stay calm in busy situations whilst demonstrating that I care about helping the wider community.
After attending my work experience programme in April at the Engineering Centre of Excellence I took it upon myself to organise a further 2 days in October half. Here I wanted to gain more experience specifically looking at the electrical side of engineering as this is what I am mostly interested in. I developed a good understanding of basic engineering and electrical principles, and gained valuable knowledge of health and safety in the work place, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
I carried out motor inspections, electrical panel testing and inspections, and practiced using a multimeter to test household batteries. In addition I completed an overview of electrical safety, learning how to work safely and responsibly when handling electrical systems and equipment.
I completed a 1 weeks work experience programme with Sellafield Ltd. The week consisted of an overview of various roles in engineering and maintenance in a workshop environment.
We carried out tasks using remotely operated vehicles and 3D printing. The was a small group of students attending the programme and we were required to work as a team to carry out various civil engineering tasks which included building an infento bike.
We leathered about all the hazards and risks of working in a workshop and were required to wear PPE to protect against these.
Teamwork / Communication - I currently play for Kells U16s Rugby League where I am a valued member of the team, I help to coordinate play and ensure that all players are aware of their roles and responsibilities
While helping coach the Kells under 6s I have improved my own team working skills demonstrating that I am able to communicate effectively with a variety of different age groups
Resilience / Staying positive - Since moving to the Energy Coast UTC last year I feel I ave adjusted very well to the new school environment with new teachers and new expectations I have met many new friends and I am able to balance my school work while still continuing to compete in sport at a high level At times I have found school work challenging but I have kept a positive attitude towards my learning
Organising / Time management - I consider myself to be a very organised student, where I prioritise homework and revision tasks and set myself realistic goals I like to compete coursework before deadlines and keep all my noted and revision materials well organised This allows me to balance school work which still being able to participate in sport
