Orson Smith

I Have been a Freelance sound engineer around the bradford area for a few months. This follows the 2 years of experience i have as a Trainee Sound Engineer at the 1in12 Club. Most of my work has been at the 1in12 Club, where i have done paid gigs by myself. I have also done work at my secondary school, which i left in June 2024, which was paid. This has taught my about the layout of stages, good working practices when working with bands and around loud equipment, and to have a sharp ear.

Here, i shadowed the main engineer of the 1in12 club. This gave me the opportunity to work with many bands, and learn from an actual industry professional how things are done. He taught me many things including mic positioning, cable coiling and stage layouts. He also taught me safe working practices, such as using hearing protection. I still shadow him on occasion. This also taught me many teamworking skills, as we often had to work together, giving me opportunity to use my creative input to get things done.

I worked for a year as a 'Kitchen Assistant'. I primarily did Pot Washing at this role, which taught me to be have time management, as some dishes were a higher priority than other at different times. It taught me to work underpressure, as there were often times where the kitchen was a high-stress, fast-paced environment, you leanr when things get hectic. It taught me to have a high level of attention of detail, as i had to make sure surfaces were cleaned to a high detail, to meat health and safety standards.
