Volunteering
During school, I volunteered at a local care home where I prepared refreshments, baked for residents, and spent time listening to their stories. This experience strengthened my communication and active‑listening skills, and taught me the importance of patience and empathy, particularly when supporting residents with dementia.
I also volunteered at a winter warm hub for vulnerable people in the community, where I served food and drinks and helped create a welcoming environment. Several attendees were deaf, so I learned basic sign language to communicate more effectively. Engaging with people from different backgrounds, singing with them, and initiating conversations helped build my confidence and ability to connect with individuals I had never met before.
