  • During my internship, I rotated through the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Surgery and Paediatrics spending 3 months in each department.
  • INTERNAL MEDICINE : I served as the first point of contact for patients admitted from the accident and emergency Unit.
  • My responsibilities includes clerking, conducting physical examinations, requesting necessary investigations, and formulating initial management plans under the supervision of senior colleagues.
  • I attended to patient with gastroenterology pathologies as well as patients from other unit such as the cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology, neurology and respiratory during call hours.
  • In addition I attended to patients in outpatient clinics and conducted daily House Officer ward rounds, followed by the Unit's ward rounds, where in-patient clinical conditions were reviewed and discussed with my senior colleagues.
  • I prepared discharge summaries, maintained inpatient investigation charts to track clinical progress, and participated in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, grand rounds and morbidity and mortality (M&M) meetings.
  • SURGERY : I had a month each of dedicated experience in Paediatric Surgery, General Surgery and Accident & Emergency.
  • As the on-call House Officer, I served as the first-line contact for patients, assessing and stabilizing them in the Accident and Emergency Unit under senior
    supervision.
  • For patients scheduled for elective surgeries, I managed the pre-operative work-up and ensured the implementation of postoperative orders, including adequate analgesia and intravenous antibiotic administration.
  • I assisted in surgical procedures such as exploratory laparotomies, herniorrhaphies, lumpectomy, orchidopexy, open reduction and internal fixations among others.
  • I routinely performed various clinical procedures, including phlebotomy, intravenous cannulation, aseptic wound
    dressing, staple removal, and nasogastric tube insertion, ensuring high standards of patient care and safety.
  • I offered teaching sessions to medical students during free time at call hours.

    antenatal patients on designated weekdays, as well as routine consultations for other patients, under the supervision of my senior.
  • PAEDIATRICS : I rotated through Paediatrics Haematology & oncology, Neonatal ICU, and Paediatrics Emergency Unit for a month each.
  • During my time I gained proficiency in a range of essential procedures, including paediatric phlebotomy and intravenous cannulation, lumbar puncture, exchange blood transfusion, paediatric basic life support & neonatal resuscitation and umbilical cannulation.
