2022.01 - 2023.01
  • Following a newly established interest in horse riding at the age of 16, I initially volunteered to help out at the stables to learn more about horse management. However, Jill Carenza, seeing my interest, offered me a position as a paid employee and member of the team, which I undertook whilst completing my A levels and during term breaks on year one of my degree.
  • Responsible for mucking out up to 40 horses a day and assisting in the organisation of riding lessons and hacks, involving the selection of the appropriate horses and their preparation.
  • Quickly progressed and given increased responsibility to leading hacks out into the local countryside, consisting of up to 7 people for up to 2 hours.
  • Responsibility increased further to hacks not just direct from the yard, but also meeting clients at a pre-determined location for an event, to act as either a guide or be a 1:1 guide and mentor.
  • Handled, by the nature of the role, multiple high risk and stressful situations, including extreme weather in exposed country, dealing with “spooked” horses and clients, and catching unruly horses.
  • Repeating clientele to the stable yard would frequently request for me to be their guide or lead the hack, and I became a relied-on member of the team with an open invite to return at any time to the yard when back in the area whilst doing my degree.
