  • I observed treatment of malaria based on positive result of rapid diagnostic test only without thick and thin blood for malaria parasites as required by standard practice and Hospital policy
  • Revisited all malaria cases and discussed with house-officers on paediatrics unit asking for reason why malaria treatment is based on positive of rapid diagnostic test only and asking for suggestions for change. Findings discussed with departmental leads to aim to improve the practice. The test was mandated for every malaria cases and provision made to have the cases review on a monthly basis by the registrars.
