Compassionate and resilient Mental Health Student Nurse (PGDip) with clinical and administrative experience. Proven capability in delivering safe, person-centred mental health care across acute, older community, MHCAS, Psychiatric Liaison, crisis, and rehabilitation settings. Strong advocate for patients under the Mental Health Act 1983, with demonstrated leadership in multidisciplinary coordination, safeguarding, and care planning.
My different clinical placements, along with my experience as a learning disability support worker, have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of complex mental health needs throughout the course of life and in different care environments.
My strong dedication to advocating for vulnerable populations and enhancing their well-being motivates me to pursue a career in mental health nursing. My prior experience as a support worker with a learning disability has fostered a strong understanding of person-centred care, the significance of safeguarding, and the influence of social determinants on health outcomes. This background developed exceptional communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills, especially in managing complex family dynamics and multi-agency contexts. This experience established a solid foundation for understanding the intersection of mental health and intellectual disabilities, equipping me to support individuals with varied cognitive abilities.
My practical placements provided me significant hands-on experience throughout the mental health care continuum. In psychiatric intensive care units (PICU), I acquired expertise in rapid assessment, de-escalation techniques, and the management of acute behavioural disturbances, consistently prioritising the safety and dignity of patients undergoing severe mental health crises. My experience in acute inpatient units refined my abilities in comprehensive mental state assessment, medication management, and the development of therapeutic relationships within dynamic settings. In hospital-based assessment units, I acquired experience in initial crisis intervention, risk assessment, and collaborative discharge planning, frequently working to ensure smooth transitions for patients returning to the community. My exposure to older adult community mental health services offered insights into long-term condition management, relapse prevention, and the support necessary for individuals to lead fulfilling lives in their homes, which underlines the importance of holistic, recovery-orientated care.
