Highly motivated individual with mixed experience and qualifications in rail, building, woodworking, vehicle repair and maintenance in fast paced workshops. Willing and quick to learn and adapt to new tasks and good general knowledge of how to use hand tools and power tools. Enthusiastic for hands on work and opportunities to progress and learn each day.
Working as an Earthing Assistant on the railway my responsibility is to assist the Authorised Person in moving the required equipment to site on track, checking the overhead lines are not live and connecting the earths to allow the job site to be protected from any unwanted electricity still in the lines. These are then removed after the job has been completed on site and all plant / personnel are off track.
As a telehandler operator my role involves moving materials around site, organising into relevant positions, providing trades with the necessary tools or materials when needed. During less busy days with a limited number of lifts, helping out on the ground making mixes for the bricklayers and general labouring and assistance as and when needed.
My role here was to monitor levels at a sewage works facility during construction of a new underground pipe section. I was responsible for doing site checks to monitor the levels of water, power being used, quality of water, fuel levels for generators and check pumps were working efficiently. These would be day and night shifts on a rota, requiring working 12 hour shifts any day or night of the week.
General forklift operating such as loading out on a morning for brick layer gangs, taking deliveries and allocating areas for materials in the most efficient manner, emptying site skips and providing subcontractors with lifts when needed. In quieter periods I would also help labouring on site as and when necessary.
General forklift duties such as machine checks, carrying materials around site, providing lifts for subcontractors, taking deliveries and other jobs as required by the site manager.
As a fence installer my role consisted of loading the van with materials for the day, travelling to site and removing old fences or gates and fitting new ones to a high standard, overcoming problems such as underground services, different level gardens and drives, and inadequate ground conditions. Van driving was also required to drop off parts for other jobs and collect from suppliers. I was also responsible for making fence and gate panels and general labouring.
This job involved removing old windows and fitting new pvc ones to improve the look of buildings and the energy keeping properties. I learnt a a wide range of things from how to fit regular windows, to doors, sliding bifold doors and sky lanterns.
Turn A Round produce wooden sofa and chair legs for retail companies such as DFS. To make these legs I was required to collect wooden planks, deliver them to the workshop where they would be cut to length, put through a variety of machines such as table saws, band saws, planers and lathes. After shaping I would then sand them and spray them to the designated colour before spray painting and packing to be delivered to clients.
During this apprenticeship I was taught how to do car services, change tyres, fix punctures, change exhausts, brakes and diagnose and repair other mechanical issues. These would be carried out on cars to be sold or customer vehicles and therefore needed to be done to a high standard to be in line with manufacturer and company warranty’s.
