I am a Doctoral Associate at the University of Sheffield, nearing the completion of my PhD, where my research focuses on the effectiveness of the emerging Social Impact Investment innovations, applying a postcolonial perspective. With a strong foundation in finance and accountancy, supported by my ACCA qualification, which I completed by passing the core papers on the first attempt, I have cultivated a deep understanding of accountability, transparency, and financial systems. As I approach the end of my academic journey, I am eager to transition my focus to the audit industry, an area I am deeply passionate about and have keenly awaited an opportunity to return to. My academic background and professional experiences position me uniquely to contribute to the rigorous and impactful work that Grant Thornton delivers in ensuring financial integrity and quality outcomes for clients.
My teaching has focused on financial management, taxation, and corporate finance modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As a module convener for undergraduate financial management, I have been instrumental in developing the curriculum in line with the ACCA syllabus and also serving as an internal moderator across various accounting modules in the Accounting and Financial Management Division. My role also includes conducting in-depth tutorials, seminars and workshops for students in MSc financial management and corporate finance modules. Other administrative roles include responding to student queries and ensuring their overall well-being through my role as their personal tutor.
On the research side of my role which is a part time PhD, my case study focuses on the subalterns (groups in society with limited contributions or voices within stakeholder engagements). I critically examine the ultra poor beneficiary responses to external NGO interventions for poverty alleviation. Central to this inquiry is an assessment of how "what is described as donor and NGO effectiveness" through innovations like Social Impact Investing and Development Impact Bonds (DIBs) may be inadequately when viewed from the beneficiaries perspective. Hence, become counterproductive to achieving sustainability and transformative change in society.
