After qualifying as a nurse in 2008 I worked for six years on a cardiology ward gaining loads of experience in this field. I can record ECGs and look after patients on cardiac monitoring. The ward later lost six beds which became stroke beds so I have a good understanding of this too .
In 2014 I moved to a diabetic ward and continued to learn and add to my knowledge of different conditions.
Having worked on these two wards was a great help when moving out to community in 2017 and becoming part of the district nursing team as many of the patients had chronic conditions. Being a lone worker was at times scary but has really helped me to prioritize my workload and to better assess my patients and report back to other members of the multidisciplinary team as required. It also taught me to be a better advocate for my patients too. I am able to work under pressure and in difficult situations and surroundings.
Due to family commitments I left the community team in 2018 but continue to do bank work with them and also in the general hospital on the medical wards.
I am hardworking, organised and reliable. I enjoy working as part of team but can work equally well independently. I am keen to learn new skills and since becoming a bank nurse have been responsible for arranging my own learning which I have managed well.
