My career started with the Civil Service in central Bristol - HMRC. Having gained an ONC (Organisations and Business) I moved to the Internal Audit Department of Thorn EMI in Swindon - carrying out audits in Somerset, Avon, Gloucestershire and Dorset. Then I moved to Pickfords Travel Internal Audit - a larger area to cover - all locations south of Birmingham. I moved into sales in 1992 and worked for 4 removal companies including a stint with my present employer, through to 2008, sometimes in administrative roles.
Main duties include undertaking sales calls (surveys) by video or in person. Ensure survey details passed to Move Management Team within 24 hours with accurate costings and estimates of items to be moved. Follow up of quotations within 48 hours of issue. Whilst the working week was 37.5 hours flexibility was required when necessary to achieve the above - the removal industry being seasonal. Working on one's own requires self motivation and as no 2 customers are the same, good interpersonal skills and practical knowledge to understand and fulfil customers expectations. Whilst less likely since the pandemic, the job could involve 100- 200 miles travelling a day with the associated admin. after that.
Similar role to present employment but working within a much smaller geographical area - Avon, Somerset, South Gloucestershire.
Most of my previous job roles have required the ability to manage my own time to best effect, to achieve goals within the parameters set to achieve those goals
