Work history

Social work assistant

Social Services, Falkland Islands
Stanley, Stanley
2016.04 - 2026.05

Over the past ten years working as a Social Work Assistant in the Falkland Islands, I have developed a broad and adaptable skill set within a small, multidisciplinary team serving a close-knit community. Due to the unique demands of working within a small population, my role has encompassed a wide range of responsibilities across multiple service areas.

I have been responsible for completing and implementing care and support assessments, developing and reviewing person-centered care plans, and working with a diverse group of service users. This has included supporting older adults, individuals with learning disabilities, children and families, and those experiencing substance misuse challenges. My work has required flexibility, strong professional judgement, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, individualized care.

In addition to core duties, I have taken initiative in developing and introducing community-based services to better meet local needs. This includes helping to establish support groups, such as men’s groups, and working alongside charities to enhance the range of services available in the Falkland Islands. These efforts have contributed to building a more inclusive and supportive community environment.

I maintain up-to-date training in key areas including safeguarding, dementia awareness, and mental health, and I am also TIMIAN trained. My ongoing professional development supports my ability to respond effectively to complex and evolving needs.

A key achievement in my role has been my involvement in the creation and implementation of a supported living service for individuals with additional needs. This has included contributing to budgeting, recruitment, and the development of a robust and sustainable service model. I have also played a central role in designing and delivering individualized, person-centered care plans to ensure high standards of support.

My primary responsibilities include undertaking care and support assessments to identify individual needs, screening referrals within the department, and ensuring that service users are directed to the most appropriate services. Where necessary, I escalate cases to social services to ensure timely and effective intervention.

I believe my work over the past decade has made a meaningful and positive impact on the Falkland Islands community, supporting individuals to achieve better outcomes and improving access to essential services.

Assistant technical officer

Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust
Wolverhampton
2009.03 - 2011.04

I worked as an Assistant Technical Officer within the hospital pharmacy team, where I was responsible for supporting the safe and efficient supply of medications to hospital wards. This role involved conducting regular stock checks on wards, identifying required medications and supplies, and ensuring that stock levels were maintained to meet patient needs.

I carried out detailed checklists to assess medication requirements, returning to the on-site pharmacy stores to accurately prepare and dispense orders. I then delivered these supplies back to the wards in a timely manner, ensuring that all items were correct and handled in line with safety procedures. In addition, I monitored stock levels within the pharmacy and contributed to ordering medications and supplies when levels were low, helping to maintain continuity of care.

This role required strong attention to detail, organisation, and an understanding of the importance of accuracy when handling medications. I worked closely with pharmacy staff and ward teams to ensure effective communication and efficient service delivery.

This was my first substantive role following the completion of my nurse cadetship at the same hospital, and it provided me with valuable hands-on experience within a clinical environment. It strengthened my understanding of medication management processes and reinforced my interest in progressing within the health and social care field.
