After a long engineering career, then moving into the hospitality sector I now find myself looking for another part time job on the Isle of Wight. Since permanently moving onto the IoW with my partner Antoinette and our border collie Dizzy, I feel the current night position I do at the RLYC doesn’t suit our needs, so a part time day position(approx 15-18 hours a week) would suit us much more, as we renovate our new home, and settle into life on the island
This part time position was basically a “tick in the box” for insurance purposes having a member of staff on site, whenever any rooms were being let out. Again it involved late arrivals/early departures, sorting any arising problems/emergencies etc, serving breakfasts etc
I delivered clean laundry and collected used laundry from a variety of businesses around Hampshire, London and on the Isle of Wight. Also maintaining the vehicles being used.
After COVID hit I took various positions in hotels in Cornwall, mainly doing night management positions, which included late arrivals/early departures, hotel security, sorting any problems/emergencies that arose etc
After taking “voluntary severance” from Rolls Royce I went into the hospitality business as Pub Landlord of various public houses in my native Derbyshire. Building up good teams to help regenerate failing public houses.
,After completing a full engineering apprenticeship through Rolls Royce, I carried on working for them to almost complete 30 years service, progressing to my final position on the production Testbeds, “passing” their engines off as “fit for service”.
From learning all types of engineering skills, including lathe work and reading technical drawings to building and testing aero engines for Rolls Royce to rebuilding failing public houses into profitable businesses, the main thing I’ve learnt through my various careers is to build up a good team that will work together to get the business complete
