Oversaw full daily replenishment of an 80,000 square foot busy extra store, ensuring optimal stock levels and efficient operations.

My team was made up of four Line Managers and seventy colleagues.

The main responsibilities of the role were:

  • Creating an inspiring, welcoming and inclusive working environment for everyone.

  • Promoting a culture of safety first within my store through leading and managing safe & legal routines.

  • Reviewing systems/reports to deliver the right improvements for customers and colleagues, action planning as required.
  • Understanding the store operating model making sure the right activities occur.

One of our biggest achievements has to be, the successful daily recovery of the store the week of Xmas 2022, when we took over £2.2 Million in sales in six days and received a recognition award from the Stores Director.

Lead Night Manager

Tesco Stores Limited
Perth , Tayside
2020.10 - 2021.04

Same role and responsibilities as above, but at Perth Extra Store. This appointment also happened to coincide with the challenges of operating during the COVID -19 outbreak, including following strict safety guidelines around social distancing and isolation, which meant frequently operating with reduced colleague numbers.

The store also underwent a major refit from January to March of my tenure, with all works taking place during my shifts, meaning I was a liaison for the building team and also more importantly, had to deliver an unaffected shopping experience for our customers, despite the upheaval and also maintain the safety of the colleagues during the works.

Ambient Night Manager

Tesco Stores Limited
Dundee, Tayside
2020.01 - 2020.10

Line Manager of the Ambient areas of the store, including Grocery, Frozen Food, Wines & Spirits and Warehouse.

I was charged with managing the night replenishment team of 30 colleagues, responsible for replenishing the store nightly to a high standard.

Health & Beauty Night Manager

Tesco Stores Limited
Dundee, Tayside
2018.01 - 2020.01

Line Manager responsible for the Health & Beauty Replenishment team, which also incorporated the Price Integrity Department and Out Of Hours Checkout Staff.

The main challenges here, involved keeping the Health & Beauty filled to a high standard, at a time when a new Boots store opened in the retail park and keeping the store legal from a price point of view, in charge of the team who maintain the price labels and POS in store.

The Out Of Hours Checkout operation was particularly volatile, as a 24 hour store can attract numerous unsavoury characters, so staff safety and security was very important.

Non Food Night Manager

Tesco Stores Limited
Dundee, Tayside
2010.01 - 2018.01

Line Manager in charge of the Non Food Department of the Kingsway extra Store.

Responsible for a Team of 20 Colleagues, this job was at a time when Tesco were particularly interested in there Non Food offer and way before smart phones became the norm. The Non Food and Electrical range was quite vast and ever changing, which made it a very interesting job and it was always a challenge to keep shelves and seasonal areas well merchandised when availability was poor.

Seasonal Events Manager

Tesco Stores Limited
Dundee, Tayside
2009.03 - 2010.01

Secondment to a temporary role in-store. The job involved using planning and merchandising skills, to launch monthly events in the Seasonal areas of the store and add theatre to promotion ends, new product launches and big media releases, such as video game midnight openings, where hundreds would turn up and have to be marshalled and organised through the checkout, safely and efficiently.

As a lot of this activity took place during the night and due to the sales uplifts seen, I was asked to move onto nights, to improve the Non Food Replenishment Operation.

Non Food Stock Control Manager

Tesco Stores Limited
Dundee, Tayside
2003.06 - 2009.03

Manager in charge of the Non Food Stock Control Team, responsible for maintaining the book stock accuracy and stock levels, across Hardware, Electrical, News & Mags and Health & Beauty.

I started this role as part of the New Store opening team at Kingsway Extra, recruiting the colleagues while the store was being built, setting up the processes and ordering systems, then merchandising the Non Food departments in the months leading up to opening and then maintaining it, in the subsequent years till my next post.

This was a great experience, as at the time it was the biggest store in Scotland.

As well as the Management roles mentioned, my 38 year career with Tesco prior to opening Kingsway Extra, was fortunate enough to always be varied and offer plenty of opportunities to expand my skills.

From starting out as a Shelf Filler after school at Wm Low Forfar Store, the years between this have seen me work across various formats including,

Refit Manager at Wm Low Forfar Store.

Ambient Stock Control Manager at Forfar Superstore. (Wm Low To Tesco Transition)

Stock Control Manager at Cupar Superstore.

New Store Opening Team for Dundee Metro Store. (The 2nd In The Format)

Hobbies And Interests

My work has always kept me very busy, however in my spare time I am an avid Runner and Cyclist and I am currently an active member of Dundee Road Runners.

I started running in 2012 and over the years, have taken part in over a hundred organised events, across many distances, the largest being Edinburgh Marathon in 2017.

I also enjoy cycling and was fortunate enough to take part in a Tesco Charity event, cycling 500 miles across five days, from Welwyn Garden To Dundee, raising £30,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

My other hobbies include watching and reviewing movies, socialising and gaming.

Without a doubt my biggest passion is spending time with my two granddaughters, aged seven and four. I have been a huge part of their lives since birth and I am so proud of the bond and relationship we have. It is because of them that I am so passionate about a career in childcare and during my time at college, I loved involving them in new things I learned from games, to activities and crafts.
