I have grown as a person from a shy and quite child who didn't develop with confidence until mid adulthood, to now being confident in myself and in my ability to research, learn, listen and develop through feedback and trying things out.
I give everything that I do my attention and passion for being the best I can and passing this on to the people that I work with. I support others and encourage lifting each other up and teamwork to succeed together.
I enjoy a challenge and I am adaptable to finding solutions for all situations that I find myself in by being proactive and asking questions. I am self empowered and motivated to represent myself in a professional way, whilst showing kindness and compassion to those I work with.
As a training and recruitment officer my roles have been as follows
Driver trainer
This role involved meeting and training new drivers to gain their bus licence. I was using communication skills and coaching training to help them achieve test standard on the road and pass the other tests involved with the process. This required adapting my communication style to each trainee as their learning styles and needs would vary.
CPC/Induction
For the past 2 years I have been responsible for conducting the company induction for new employees and also for preparing all documentation. I was also in charge of planning, delivering and managing the CPC/DQC process to ensure drivers do not expire on their licence so they are legal to drive. This has required managing my own time, communicating with all levels of the business, and training other people to help.
As part of the delivery of the courses it has utilised my skills of organisation, attention to detail, time management, working under pressure, planning and forward thinking, managing relationships with the drivers and managers as I often have to adjust how I communicate and deliver the material depending on who is on the course as keeping a classroom engaged and rolling for 7 hours can be a challenge, but one I thrive on. The classroom requires a high level of communication skills and energy to address negative attitudes, handle a variety of personalities and give everyone the best experience whilst delivering the material so that the drivers represent First in the best way.
As part of this role I have been doing various hours and I am always prepared to do what is required to get the work completed.
I have worked for First Bus since October 2015. I started as a driver and progressed quickly to being a buddy driver. In 2019 I became a relief training and recruitment officer and this resulted in a secondment in February 2022 to manage the CPC process and became full time in Oct 2022.
When I worked as a driver I was always keen to make sure that I represented the company in the best way and that I did the role as I had been trained by my buddy driver. As a buddy driver I continued that high standard as I educated my trainees on upholding company standards and to not just be a driver but someone the customers respected and valued.
This role required a good knowledge of the business, maintaining good relationships with managers and controllers, adapting my training to suit the new drivers. I aimed to train the new drivers in processes and routes, but also to empower and encourage them to be able to undertake the job independently and with confidence.
I worked for a transfer/taxi business as a driver for my family business that was established and run by my father.
The business concentrated on transporting people mostly to airports and seaports. The customer base was all pre booked and relied on maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction and this resulted in a loyal customer pool to sustain the bookings.
I drove for many types of people including film companies, presenters and high profile corporate businesses and as such I tailored each my journeys to each client and maintain a level of professionalism to retain their business.
The role required patience, preparation, planning, attention to detail and a strong ability to know what people required to make their experience unique to them.
During my time at MITIE I was responsible for booking engineers on site for appointments to maintain air conditioning and heating systems as well as responding to emergency situations and finding solutions to deploy resources effectively.
I achieved a good rapport with the clients and engineers so that I could create a good atmosphere for the work environment and this allowed cooperation and resolving situations quickly.
I needed to work well under pressure, be able to manage my own and the engineers time, liaise with contractors, communicate with managers and be accountable for the decisions that I was making.
This role was fast paced and reactive which I handled with confidence.
I worked at Clarks International in 2 different roles.
I started as a store planner in the men's department and I would talk to the stores on a regular basis and would be responsible for getting their stock levels correct and the merchandise offering to the customers right for the area that stores were in. I worked in the stores and companies best interest to maximise sales. This was achieved by getting to know the managers, visiting the stores and gaining and understanding of the locations.
I progressed to being a store planner and was responsible for creating a store layout that delivered the company requirements and was aesthetically pleasing to customers to allow for ease of browsing and a desire to purchase the products.
This required working with many departments, communicating with all levels of the business including presenting plans and ideas to directors for sign off. I was required to travel, manage my own time and produce work to a high standard.
