Senior Microelectronics Packaging Engineer

RAL is a world-class research facility for astronomy, physics, and space science, I work as part of a multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and technicians. My responsibilities include:

  • Engineering lead for the assembly of the ATLAS ITk strip detector. Working closely with the project managers and activity coordinators to define assembly procedures and implement QA and QC steps.
  • Chair local and international project meetings. Give technical updates on project activities.
  • Consulting on microelectronics assembly techniques, including procurement of new equipment.
  • Research and development into new and existing microelectronics technologies.
  • Prototyping the next generation of detectors.
  • Design and manufacture tooling for process development and production to BS8888 standards. Working closely with internal and external manufacturing facilities.
  • Writing standard operating procedure documentation for microelectronic assembly.
  • Writing COSHH and risk assessments.
  • Working in ISO 5 and ISO 7 cleanrooms.
  • Taking on responsibilities for interviewing, training, and supervising new graduate engineers, apprentices, and technicians, including direct line management duties.
  • Test beam analysis.
  • Python development for database component tracking.
