
Convinced and convicted of the need for clear, expository and worshipful preaching of The Scriptures in and through the whole life of the local church. Convinced and convicted of the great urgency conveyed in the Great Commission - “missions exist because worship doesn't” - John Piper. Convinced and convicted of the need for the strategic planning and implementation of training pipelines for future leaders in the church. Convinced and convicted of the Biblical reality of the Body of Christ functioning together - we are each a part of the body, meaning team ministry flows naturally out of our Ecclesiology.
Led a revitalisation project serving a church of 15 which has now grown to a church of 60-80. Responsible for preaching and teaching. Started an internship training scheme in 2019 which is ongoing. Hired a women's worker - herself trained through our internship scheme. Saw consistent growth throughout the past 9 years including a steady stream of conversions. Partnered with 20Schemes to church plant in a nearby housing scheme.
Was a founding member of this new Gospel Partnership in 2022/3. Currently with 10 member churches/leaders throughout the South West of Scotland. The focus is on unity with regards to fundamental doctrinal issues but encouraging fellowship and diversity on secondary/tertiary matters. A reformed, conservative, evangelical partnership seeking to clearly hold to the Gospel and offering training and support to member churches, including currently exploring partnering with Crosslands for training.
Served as convener of “CLAM” committee - the largest General Assembly Committee with the broadest remit. CLAM has 12 members but includes 5 working groups, together encompassing 40 people. The scope includes church planting, revitilisation, resourcing churches, training of office bearers, global mission partnerships, moral and social engagement, employment of all ministry assistants and part-time staff, including line managing 10 employees, oversight of children and youth work including camps, organising the annual conference with 250 attending, interviewing for new posts, strategy and vision planning for the denomination including adoption of “A Vision for 2030”, and implementing new procedures for awarding funding to projects. Oversight of all denominational finance schedules was another aspect.
The Board is responsible for the oversight of Cornhill Scotland, including matters of employment and ethos. An important part of the role is pastoral oversight and safeguarding of all students.
Took over the role in order to help the community association avoid closure. The Community Centre is an important part of the community of Kilmaurs and is where Maxwell Church currently gathers every Sunday. Duties include change management, risk assessments, grant applications, administrative duties and creation of team ethos.
Responsibilities of the group included oversight of new candidates, including interview processes. Also membership care - undertaking home assignment interviews and giving pastoral care where needed to current and retired missionaries.
Took part in the leading of public worship, preaching and teaching. Undertook various pastoral duties including hospital visitation and one-to-one discipleship. Gained experience in leading meetings and project management.
Worked in the church's community cafe. Served food and drinks. Evangelistic friendships were a key part, as well as holding a variety of evangelistic/missional events.
Blended in-classroom study with on-site practical experience working and serving in a local church context. Further study was undertaken in partnership with Third Millennium Ministries.
1 year of 4-days-per-week intensive study of the Bible, theology, church history, pastoral practice and preaching and teaching classes.
