I am currently working within the Pharmacy Distribution Department at the Royal Devon University Healthcare Hospital as a supervisor SATO. With nearly eight years of experience working in both community and hospital pharmacy environments, including my current role as a Pharmacy Distribution Supervisor, I am confident that my skills and background make me well-suited to contribute effectively to your team.
In my current role, I manage a variety of pharmacy distribution duties, including processing ward stock requests, managing urgent drug recalls, and supporting the pharmacy dispensary. I have direct experience working with prescription processing, liaising with healthcare professionals such as pharmacists, nurses, and GPs to ensure accurate and timely management of medication orders.
I am highly organised, detail-oriented, and proficient in pharmacy IT systems including Epic MyCare, ProScript and Omnicell Robot. My experience in training staff, maintaining accurate records, and working under pressure has strengthened my ability to manage complex workloads efficiently while ensuring patient safety and service quality.
I am enthusiastic about this opportunity to use my skills in prescription processing and administration to support the pharmacy team and improve patient care.
Whilst working as a SATO in Pharmacy Distribution I have gained extensive knowledge within the department and invaluable experience needed to ensure the needs of the department are met. I have also completed a course to expand my knowledge and skillset as a Supervisor so I am able to provide a high level of service and care to my team.
Other duties and responsibilities include:
* Supporting the Lead Technician/Manager with the department needs.
* Completing Drug Recalls and contacting the relevant wards and external hospitals that could be effected.
* Completing staff audits to ensure ward top ups are completed correctly and to a high standard to ensure patient safety is met at all times.
* Always ensuring patient confidentiality is met at all times.
* Training new members of staff and making sure training sheets are completed and signed off.
* Updating SOPs as and when needed.
* Updating ward profiles, balances of stock, adding and removing items to ward profile as requested from the Pharmacists.
* Leasing with Pharmacists, Managers, Pharmacy Technicians and Nurses internal and external, face to face, via email and telephone.
* Correcting stock discrepancies within the department, updating balances, adding of medicines and providing alternatives if not in stock to the relevant wards.
I worked as an ATO in Pharmacy Distribution for just over a year before getting my promotion to SATO. During this time I;
* Provided ward top-ups using electronic bar code readers, I used ward profiles to regularly check stock to ensure they had the optimum needed. I regularly checked expiry dates, removed expired stock at the end of each month and issued replacement stock using the pharmacy computer system ''My Care''.
* Used the computer system to complete orders from internal and external wards, assembled the orders and checked them off prior to the orders being dispatched.
* Disposed of medications correctly, segregating them into the correct burn bins for destruction. This included Pharmaceutical, non pharmaceutical, Cyto-Toxic, Drugs of Diversion and Flammable (COSHH)
* Communicated with Nurses, Pharmacists, Technicians and my colleagues, via telephone and e-mail.
* Competently used the computer system.
* Returned patient medications back into stock.
* Ensured patient confidentiality was met at all times.
Whilst working in Mayfield Pharmacy I have gained my Counter Assistant course and NVQ Level 2 Dispensing Assistant course. I had many responsibilities and duties within the Pharmacy, which are listed below;
* Dispensed all medication in a challenging and extremely busy environment, working along side the Pharmacists, Doctors and Dispensing Colleagues.
* Dispensed controlled drugs and recorded them into the Controlled Drugs register.
* Dispensed Methadone and administered to patient ensuring all records were up to date, and any new scripts are recorded.
* Ensured patient confidentiality was maintained at all times.
* Ordered medication using online and In house ordering services to ensure stock levels were consistent.
* Received orders and made sure all was correct.
* Safely disposed of returned and out of date medicines including Controlled Drugs, which were recorded separately.
* Used the data base to make new patient records, therefore able to make a record of dispensed medications.
* Liaised with the patients and was able to recommend over the counter medicines where appropriate.
* Dealt with a high volume of phone calls and solved patients queries and complaints.
* Filed and sorted out the prescriptions into the relevant areas for end of month submission.
* Mentored new members of staff and helped where needed.

My roles and responsibilities included providing high levels of customer service to meet a wide range of customers. I was responsible for the customers journey in store from booking-in and pre-screening to frame selection and dispensing, ensuring the customers individual needs were met. I was also responsible for carrying out a 'contact lens teach' for customers to ensure they knew how to insert and remove contact lenses safely and correctly.
I kept customers informed and up to date regarding orders and appointments through telephone conversations and emails. Communication was essential between staff members, keeping each other informed about customers and other store issues on a daily basis. The role required me to liaise with other stores and departments within the business to ensure customers received excellent customer service. I was able to recognise potential serious eye conditions if a customer was to come in with certain symptoms. We would either advise A&E or speak to the optician for further advice.
