Voluntary Carer

Private Employer
Haywards Heath
06.2020 - 12.2020

For my volunteer role, I set out hoping to make a difference as well as provide care for my friend's close relative who suffered from dementia. I made the decision to help my friend as I wanted to use my time doing something more meaningful which is helping others where possible. In this role, I provided compassion, care, and companionship for example we would go through old photos together, watched television, discussed past and present memories. As she was a fiercely independent woman despite having dementia, I helped her keep her independence as much as possible by keeping her informed, asking questions, involving her in daily choices, helping her maintain her confidence. I also ensured she had hot meals, a clean and organized space, and home supported daily tasks such as throwing out and old food and doing the bins and making her life as comfortable as possible as well as keeping her wellbeing and progress on a regular basis.
