Work History

General Sonographer

Maidstone and Tunbridge, trust
09.2023 - Current
  • The role requires me to undertake general ultrasound scans independently performing and reporting routine and complex ultrasound examinations in accordance with the ultrasound departmental guidelines and relevant professional body's code of conduct
  • Perform and report complex unsupervised examinations relevant to appropriate level of training and expertise and to work within the ultrasound departmental guidelines.

Locum Radiographer

Sussex- Multiple Sites
03.2023 - 09.2023
  • My role for a locum radiographer is to undertake all aspects of CT scanning throughout different NHS trusts in the Sussex region
  • This varied from non-complex scans to cardiac and colon CT scans
  • I was also required to undertake cannulation for patients who require scans
  • This role was undertaken whilst I awaited my DBS checks for my permanent ultrasound position at MTW trust as a Sonographer.

Interventional Radiology (IR) Supervisor

Sidra medicine
04.2018 - 01.2023
  • I am currently the IR supervisor at Sidra Medicine
  • Sidra Medicine is a greenfield site – which opened in 2017
  • When first joining Sidra, I assisted the CT supervisor in leading the CT service in addition to supervising IR
  • My role in CT was to build protocols and train new staff members in addition to completing complex scans
  • As Sidra is predominantly for paediatric patients, we are constantly striving to ensure CT dose is as low as possible whilst maintaining diagnostic images
  • We currently use Siemens, Philips and GE for routine, emergency and oncology scans
  • In addition to this myself and the CT supervisor created a working group and devised protocols for ECHMO arterial scans
  • We also were involved in a conjoined twin separation where CT Angio’s were required throughout the preop planning process
  • My role has since progressed to specialise in IR alone due to the ramp up of service demand
  • In IR I lead the radiography team, we have single plane and biplane IR labs and a biplane hybrid IR-MRI lab
  • As part of my daily role in IR we x-ray and ultrasound patients throughout procedures
  • As a radiographer at Sidra, it is part of the role to modify scanning parameters for the radiologist whilst they maintain a sterile field for all imaging requirements
  • In addition to daily functional duties, I have worked closely with QCHP to advance radiographers scope of practice in Qatar
  • I was able to extend this for the whole countries IR radiography workforce in 2018.This means radiographers in Qatar can now scrub for procedures with the physicians
  • An additional role as part of my supervisor position is to complete weekly rotas, business cases and to act as a liaison between senior members of staff and radiography staff
  • Due to my passion for ultrasound from 2009 when I was a student, I have been fortunate to have the possibility to further my studies and train in ultrasound
  • I have completed a medical ultrasound master’s with AECC, Bournemouth
  • At present I undertake two weekly clinical lists of patients in ultrasound which include the above bodily regions.

Cross-sectional Sectional Radiographer

Hastings Conquest Hospital
07.2014 - 04.2018
  • Upon returning to the Hastings Conquest Hospital in a senior position, my job specification is to rotate through the Radiology department, focusing on the modalities of CT and Interventional Radiography, in addition to covering General Radiography and on-call duties
  • The Hastings Conquest Hospital has local ‘Trauma’ status for an area spanning ≧ forty miles
  • Thus, I regularly encounter an array of different traumas through the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department that require unique scans and treatment
  • A significant responsibility that I hold as a senior cross-sectional radiographer within the CT department is to prepare the room for the procedure; ensuring all cannulation and contrast pump equipment is prepared and correctly administered, if required
  • Furthermore, during a CT examination/case I work closely with the radiologist ensuring all aspects of the patient pathway are achieved
  • Daily, I scan (Toshiba - CT Scanner) a variety of different examinations, including, but not limited to;
  • Staging scans
  • Biopsies and spinal injections
  • Vascular bolus tracking studies
  • Cardiac CT
  • Trauma and Orthopaedic
  • Colonoscopy
  • I partake in regular quality assurance assessments that documents accurate radiation dosage and investigates the method of image capture and quality of images
  • Finally, an added responsibility is to assist in the teaching and learning of fellow newly qualified radiographers and students
  • This entails cultivating and persevering relationships with local universities to ensure students are provided with an experience that is relevant to the taught modules of their medical degree
  • As a senior member of staff, I'm required to ensure the highest levels of patient care is maintained whilst working under ALARP and IRMER.

Rotational Radiographer

Great Ormond Street Hospital
10.2010 - 05.2014
  • This position required continual rotation through multiple modalities; DR imaging mobile and stationery, Dental DR, Fluoroscopy procedures, Interventional radiography, Cardiac Cath lab radiography, Dyna CT, CT and DEXA scanning
  • As a tertiary referral centre, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) undertakes a vast array of complex procedures on a daily basis
  • As a consequence, I was exposed to a variety of complex cases that enhanced my CT radiological imaging practices (Siemens - CT Scanner)
  • Such cases that I provided images for, include, Siamese twin angiography to assess the degree of collateralising vessels, diagnostic, staging scans and complex cardiac scan on patients with Echmo and Berlin Hearts
  • Additionally, we had access to a portable CT scanner which allowed us to scan patients in a controlled environment on their ward
  • As part of my Interventional role at Great Ormond Street Hospital we were required to use Siemens and Toshiba Bi-place laboratories (Dyna CT inbuilt)
  • Procedures that I regularly undertake Interventional imaging are
  • Neuro diagnostics
  • Neuro intervention: Coli embolisation/Glue embolisation/intra-ophthalmic
  • PORT/PICC line insertion
  • Angioplasty
  • Biopsies
  • Bronchoscopies and Bronchograms
  • Gastroscopy feeding tubes/dilation
  • Rotational DYNA CT
  • EPS
  • Diagnostic Cardia Angiograms
  • VSD/PDA occlusions
  • Hybrid MRI diagnostic procedures
  • Furthermore, additional imaging modalities such as ultrasound are required to enhance the aforementioned procedures
  • The ultrasound equipment was prepared by myself allowing additional visualisation of the relevant vessels
  • Also, it was a further responsibility of mine during interventional cases that any relevant prior imaging on the patient was accessible to view within the laboratory
  • Following on, during interventional cases I was responsible for readying other aspects of imaging equipment, dependent on the procedure, such as, IVUS, Bronchoscopy Stack, contrast injector, CO2 injector
  • As part of the interventional on call duties at GOSH, I was required to scrub-in for interventional procedures and screen simultaneously out of hours
  • Whilst this was not a daily a routine, i feel comfortable scrubbing and preparing a sterile working environment based on trust protocols
  • I regularly attend and partake in all departmental meetings to discuss a number of topics with regards to patient provision and care with my fellow radiographers
  • Without question all departmental meetings have been invaluable to my progression as a radiographer as the discussions often enhanced my knowledge base with respect to problematic issues concerning imaging and the underlying physiological issues associated with rare humanistic conditions.

08.2009 - 09.2010
  • My position at Hastings Conquest Hospital involved working in general x-ray’s and rotating through theatre in addition to being a regularly activate participant in the on-call rota
  • A significant emphasis was on patient care in Accident and Emergency (A&E)
  • I was responsible for ensuring patient care and diagnostic images whilst working under ALARP and IRMER.
