I completed my internship as a House Officer at Fatima Memorial Hospital, where I gained extensive experience rotating through various specialties, including Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Medicine, Pediatric Surgery and General Surgery. These rotations allowed me to develop a broad clinical skill set and adaptability across diverse medical disciplines.
During my internship, I developed a particular interest in General Medicine and Emergency Medicine. My inclination toward these fields stems from my passion for diagnostic reasoning and critical thinking, which I find essential in medical specialties. I am particularly drawn to the dynamic and intellectually stimulating nature of these fields, where rapid assessment and decision-making are crucial.
Additionally, I undertook a clinical attachment in the Cardiology department at Queens Hospital Burton, where I gained valuable hands-on experience managing acute cardiac conditions in a fast-paced environment. Furthermore, my clinical attachment in A&E at William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, provided me with firsthand exposure to the high-intensity NHS setting, reinforcing my ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining patient-centered care.
I am an organized, hardworking, and highly motivated individual, committed to continuous learning and professional development. I thrive in collaborative, fast-paced environments and am eager to leverage my clinical experience, adaptability, and enthusiasm to contribute effectively to your team. I look forward to the opportunity to enhance my skills further and grow into a competent and compassionate physician in the years to come.
My four-week clinical attachment in Respiratory Medicine at William Harvey Hospital provided me with valuable experience in the understanding and management of common respiratory conditions, including COPD, asthma, pneumonia, interstitial lung disease (ILD), and pulmonary embolism.
Additionally, it enhanced my ability to recognize and manage acute respiratory emergencies such as ARDS, status asthmaticus, and tension pneumothorax, as well as interpret key respiratory symptoms like dyspnea, cough, hemoptysis, and chest pain.
Through this attachment, I have developed strong skills in focused respiratory history-taking, chest X-ray interpretation, and arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis. Moreover, I gained hands-on experience in the use of inhalers, nebulizers, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive ventilation, further strengthening my clinical acumen in respiratory care.
During my four-week clinical attachment at William Harvey Hospital in A&E, I gained valuable hands-on experience in Emergency Medicine, enhancing my clinical skills, decision-making, and teamwork in a high-pressure environment. My key learning outcomes included:
During my attachment, I actively participated in a clinical audit assessing IV cannulation in patients presenting to A&E. The audit aimed to evaluate the necessity of IV cannulation, minimizing unnecessary insertions, reducing patient distress, and optimizing resource utilization within the healthcare system. This experience reinforced my commitment to evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
During my 4-week clinical attachment in the Cardiology department at Queens Hospital Burton, I gained valuable insights into the NHS working environment. I observed the patient journey from presentation in the emergency department to discharge or referral to appropriate specialties. Shadowing various consultants, registrars, clinical fellows, and residents, I learned to communicate with patients in a more patient-centered manner and address their concerns effectively. I observed various procedures such as Per Cutaneous Intervention, Cardiac stress test, Echocardiography, ABGS, Intubation and catheterization and back slab applications. Additionally, I attended daily handovers where patient summaries were given to the on-call consultant. This experience provided me with an understanding of working in a busy department, where different team members work cohesively to ensure optimal performance. Overall, my time at Queens Hospital Burton was highly productive and enriched my knowledge, which I look forward to incorporating into my future patient management practices.
