Barriers to One Welfare: The wicked problem of veterinary healthcare inaccessibility due to economic disparity
Conducted a qualitative research project using Content Analysis exploring how economic inequality affects access to veterinary healthcare in the UK, using a One Welfare framework. Through semi-structured interviews with veterinary professionals, I identified systemic financial barriers, their emotional and ethical impacts on owners and clinicians, and the resulting consequences for animal welfare. The study highlights how corporatisation and affordability shape welfare outcomes and calls for more accessible, welfare-oriented care models.
