DLA Piper – Insight Programme

Virtual Programme | April 2020

  • Completed a competitive insight programme focused on commercial law, legal practice, and client service within an international law firm.
  • Gained exposure to core practice areas, legal research, and the role of innovation and technology in modern legal services.
  • Successfully completed the programme (40 hrs) where I learnt the key elements which should be considered for a client in mergers and acquisitions.

Tasks completed:

- Commercial awareness

- Due diligence

- Drafting

- Advice to client

Bright Network Commercial Law Internship

This is a opportunity I took during quarantine. The scheme was comprised of multiple talks advising on matters such as global investigations and both legal and business research. This was in conjunction with learning core skills for junior lawyers. I undertook immense research and accordingly advised a client on an acquisition transaction and possible forms of ADR (including litigation and arbitration).

During lockdown, I completed the programme on InsideShepra. I completed tasks such as business development, project management, firm teamwork, using Al in law, legal research, resource and business management, as well as communicating to clients. This was an exciting opportunity to get a glance into the potential of AI in the legal sector. Overall, the programme was very informative and increased my understanding of commercial law and awareness.

I was absolutely delighted to be contacted by my secondary school to become a volunteer for Future First. This volunteering experience involves me working with my secondary school Marden Heights Community College, where I was Head Boy, to help build confidence of current students. They wanted to do this by introducing to them an alumni like me, who they found inspiring and relatable. I have offered my support in a range of ways, from appearing on a poster, acting as a career role model to volunteering to mentor.

Over the course of the past few years, I have significantly developed as an individual and like to spend my spare time volunteering. This is a local charity that was found by a friend which raises awareness for homeless people. I enjoy organising fundraising events so that we can provide basic essentials such as food, shelter and clothes for those who need it.
