Circular Resource Recovery in Wastewater Systems
Developing a decision-support framework to evaluate environmental, economic, and social impacts of biosolids management pathways under land application loss, focusing on nutrient recovery, circular economy principles, and wastewater resource recovery systems.
Groundwater Contamination & Remediation Strategies at the Tucson International Airport Area Superfund Site, Arizona
Conducted technical assessment of groundwater contamination associated with TCE, 1,4-dioxane, and PFAS, evaluating remediation technologies and long-term groundwater containment strategies.
Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Design & Optimisation
Designed a municipal wastewater treatment plant including process selection, treatment performance evaluation, sludge management considerations, and effluent compliance assessment.
Road Transport Emissions Modelling & Policy Scenario Analysis in UK
Developed a traffic-based emissions inventory for a Newcastle road link using fleet-weighted emission factors and evaluated mitigation scenarios including Clean Air Zones and vehicle electrification to assess impacts on NOx, CO, and PM₂.₅ emissions, air quality, health, and climate policy.
River Water Treatment Design – Coagulation–Flocculation and Rapid Sand Filtration
Conducted laboratory and design-scale analysis of river water treatment using alum coagulation–flocculation and rapid sand filtration, including turbidity evaluation, filter design, and scale-up calculations for full-scale treatment.
River Ouseburn Water Quality Assessment: Comparative Environmental Analysis
Conducted field and laboratory analysis of physicochemical, nutrient, and microbial water quality parameters along the River Ouseburn, including pollutant-load calculations and compliance assessment against Water Framework Directive and EU Bathing Water quality standards.
Decentralized Organic Waste Management System Design in Mirpur, Dhaka
Developed a decentralized organic waste management system for Mirpur, Dhaka integrating waste collection, composting, recycling, and resource recovery strategies, including preparation of a development-bank style proposal simulating submission to the World Bank.
Treatment of Acid Mine Drainage Water (AMD)
The focus of this project was to treat acid mine drainage (AMD) and recover aluminium in the form of aluminium hydroxide. The treatment process involved chemical neutralization using sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, and lime, followed by nanofiltration to further treat the water and meet ANZECC guideline requirements (Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council). After one year of research, the project was prepared for publication.
Testing Different Kinds of Heat Exchangers
This project used practical and mathematical approaches to study different types of heat exchangers with respect to flow characteristics and overall heat transfer coefficients under different operating conditions. Data was collected using ANSYS Fluent and an experimental heat exchanger demonstrator. Resulting temperatures, heat transfer rates, LMTD, and overall heat transfer coefficients for both hot and cold conditions were determined and compared.
