Former student and experienced lifeguard with a passion for teaching, currently seeking to transition into a swim teacher role. Having worked with the PaulDillonSwim school at UCS Active and as a football and basketball coach for Kids Active, I have key skills in safety, communication, and coaching. With a strong understanding of how to engage children in a teaching environment, I am eager to learn and apply my experience in a swimming environment to help students improve their skills and build confidence in the water.
I worked at UCS Active as a casual lifeguard through my last years of education. In September I was employed on a part-time contract. When on shift I am the sole lifeguard on duty, I open and close the pool, and set up and run sessions independently. Being punctual is essential to my role which I pride myself in. Some of my experiences include: training new employees, dealing with pool-related accidents, administering first aid, Conducting chlorine residual water tests, addressing rule breaks quickly and professionally, and advising members of appropriate pool behavior.
In October, I completed Level 1 coaching qualifications in both Football and Basketball. Since then, I have been involved in coaching children aged 4–13 as part of the Kids Active sessions on Saturday mornings at UCS Active. As a coach I prioritise creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring that every child feels supported and valued regardless of their skill level. I make sure to make my sessions fun and engaging while helping children develop fundamental skills in football and basketball. I have learned to adapt my coaching techniques to suit the different ages and abilities of these children.
As a casual lifeguard, I typically fill in for absences or when extra staff is required i.e. swim meets or galas. Here I work in rotation with another recreational assistant/Lifeguard,completing cleaning tasks and conducting pool water tests, including taking readings from the plant room and checking equipment.
