I am currently working at Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre as a Healthcare Assistant commencing early February 2024, my duties include: Admitting the residents whether escorted from prison or from another holding facility or ordinarily from the wider community, with consent from resident on arrival to perform vene-puncture instant test for BBVs (Test includes: Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV) also documenting the basic vital signs in the appropriate area using SYSTEM-ONE. Discharging in the community, signing to indicate that resident/ prisoners are fit or suitable to fly, this is done under supervision from a senior RN. Other duties include, clinical area being cleaned, stocked and information book update with activity relating to cleaning, Accessing and issuing booked appointments within 24 hours, if a resident has an appointment with in-house doctor in 24 hours they would be given a slip with time and date for in-house gp. These slips are given to the DCOs (Juliet 19) to hand over to the wing officers, scanning and emailing the prescriptions written by in- house gp to Boots pharmacy with paper trail sent to Brook House and to myself. All actioned prescriptions are then filed in the folder held in on-site pharmacy. I am also responsible for scanning all the RULE 35s written by the gp sending them via email to Home Office Compliance team, myself and also copies sent to Brook House mailing address. These RULE 35s are then filed into the current months’ folder. Assisting RNs with visits to wings including CSUs, if residents were placed on RULE40s, these are residents who were disruptive and are on constant watch with no permission to leaving wing. I am also, required to assist RN with emergencies such as code; red or blue this entails carrying a first aide bag and oxygen canister. I am also responsible for the running of ‘the WELL- MAN clinic this is open to all residents, Bp, weight, O2, pulse rate recorded then input into individual notes on SYSTEM-ONE. My overall duties are supporting and assisting the nursing team in an extremely fast paced secured environment. Working meticulously is paramount.
