• I do enjoy the role but it is very rushed and I miss giving more customer service, as I do enjoy the interaction.

I started as an Infantry Soldier in the 4th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment. This gave me self-discipline, confidence and high-pressure decision-making.

After many years in the Infantry and applied, and was successful in moving into Military Intelligence with 53 Military Intelligence.

This took my military skills and added communication, leadership, planning and organisation into the mix.

I was a Special Constable in South Yorkshire Police. I was trained to drive patrol cars and tutor new officers. I ended up as a Section Officer in charge of eight other Special Constables. I organised their patrols and advised and mentored them.

As a Police Officer, I regularly had to deal with people on one of their worst days. It endowed me with leadership and communication skills that are hard to teach.

• I monitored customers' sites on CCTV and alarm handling systems, reporting any incidents to the police or security personnel depending on the site

• I was responsible for developing, testing and installing software for the Jewson's Builders Merchant computer system.

• At the end of my time with the company I was in charge of three other drivers.
