• In my role as an associate specialist resident psychiatry doctor at a leading 52 bedded mental health hospital, I contribute significantly to the well-being of diverse psychiatric cases across four wards.
• My clinical expertise spans Acute Psychiatry Wards, rehabilitation ward Collaborating seamlessly with consultants and the nursing team, I address the holistic needs of patients through active participation in ward rounds, clinical review meetings, and multidisciplinary team efforts. Common cases including Paranoid schizophrenia, bipolar, non-organic psychosis, Major Depressive Disorders with psychotic symptoms etc.
• Committed to establishing positive patient rapport and ensuring that patients under my care receive exceptional clinical services.

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including comprehensive medical records, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and medication records.

• Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, ensuring appropriate dosages, evaluating effectiveness, and managing any adverse effects.

• Respond promptly and effectively to acute psychiatric crises within the ward, such as suicidal or aggressive behavior. This includes coordinating emergency interventions, assessing risks, and ensuring the safety of both patients and staff.

• I participated in daily morning handovers.

• Rotated in a medium secure facility working in an acute ward with about 30 patients.

• Common conditions encountered include acute psychotic conditions, schizophrenia and personality disorders

• I was responsible for conducting admission assessments (2-3 per day), compiling relevant information and discharge summaries.

While on admission, I also examined patients, blood sample collections for base-line tests and performed ECGs.

• I am also in attendance of weekly MDT and contacted relatives in case collateral information was requested

• Completed a clinical audit focusing on the use of restrictive methods while working with patients that requires intensive care in the psychiatric unit which led to the uncovering of a significant safety issue

• Provided care for elderly patients with dementia, elder abuse, depression, and sepsis risk, ensuring appropriate treatment and referrals.

• Treated patients with mental health issues such as depression, substance misuse, and psychosis, focusing on high-risk cases and coordinating care with senior colleagues.

• Assisted in resuscitation, patient stabilization, and emergency treatments, triaging and transferring patients for specialized care.

• Performed tasks like abscess drainage, ingrown nail removal, and wound care under supervision.

• Conducted IV cannulation, venipuncture, suturing, NG tube insertion, and urethral catheterization.

• Managed cases like hypertension, seizures, and infections, ensuring accurate documentation, patient counselling, and follow-up care.

• Worked in the Surgery department at brighthope hospital, under the supervision of consultants.
• My duties included:
• -Patient assessment: I was responsible for assessing patients' medical history, conducting physical examinations, and recording relevant information. This includes taking a detailed history of the patient's condition, performing physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests or imaging as necessary.
• -Assisting in surgeries: I was involved in surgical procedures, assisting the senior surgeons during major operations e.g: Arthroscopy, Open reduction and internal fixation of fractures, Laparoscopic surgeries etc. I also prepared the operating room, ensuring sterile conditions, passing instruments to the surgeon, and suturing incisions under supervision.
• Worked as a responder at the covid-19 isolation center during the pandemic
• -Preoperative and postoperative care: I was responsible for managing patients before and after surgery. This involves reviewing preoperative investigations, ensuring patients are adequately prepared for surgery, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and providing postoperative care instructions.
• -Ward rounds: I participated in ward rounds with the surgical team, which included the attending surgeon, senior residents, and other healthcare professionals. During rounds, I do present patients, discuss their conditions, and assist in developing management plans.

• Internship year where I completed rotation through medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology which created a strong foundation for me.
